Hi

Robi's microphone is situated on top of his head its under the piece of guauze all speech should be directed to the top front of his head and be spoken softly but clearly. Constant repeating will only confuse the receptor and at first he will be slow to recognize your speech until he gets used to how you say things he needs to learn too like yourself with Robi.

Hi Have you tried the noise test as posted below yet:-

Hi Steph

First we need to know if Robi's microphone is picking up sound to do this switch Robi on and then tap the table with a pen to his right or left about 3 feet away from him if robi's head turns to the direction of the sound then the microphone is working.

Could you get back to me with the results of this test and if he still has no reaction it sounds like the microphone on top of Robi's head may be faulty and need replacing.

If we do get movement then we can go forward with some other things to get him going for you.

Hi Steph

It sounds like you may have a faulty microphone board, this is fitted on page 526 stage 69 in magazine 18 can you first double check the connections and try the test again.

If still no reaction then a replacement stage 69 will need to be reordered.

By the way in pack 18 did you receive the ' Living with Robi' magazine on the back page is a usage tips that contains advice on talking to Robi.

After reading this I thought I better check before my kids wake up to avoid tears and yep exactly the same symptoms here, not head turning to the direction of sound no detection that I am answering the first question.

So there is obviously something faulty, with the delay being due to the voice board, and the face that the deagostini video never goes beyond this point I am inclined to believe there is an issue and they have shipped it anyway.

Can anyone advise is there an error in the instructions somewhere or is a part at fault?

Thanks

Hi Clarley

With pack 18 you should have a booklet called 'Living with Robi' on pages 3 and 4 there is a list of prompts that should help you get Robi started again speak slowly and clearly towards the microphone. Reading the booklet will also give many tips and the back page needs to be read aswell for the usage tips.

On start up you may need to get quite close and talk to Robi at around 50cm but after the first questions distance hearing gets better. I say again he is a robot and needs to learn as you do with him.

Intimating there is something wrong like yourself and another have said that there is a problem because of a video stopping at a certain point has no relevance the video says 'Robi wakes up'and just shows Robi waking up to the point of where you talk to him. Nothing more nothing less.

My Robi started up as per the instructions and voice recognition has improved with use, you may at first find some slow reactions as the voice recognition software gets used to your accents and voices.

Hi andy, the guide is clear that during the initial questions you should only answer with Yes and No. i have tried my wife has tried my childeren have tried. We have tried every permutation of the word yes and no but nothing he just sits with orange eyes waiting for the command.

I have tried saying the command leaving it upto a minute to register but nothing. I am a electrical engineer and I am well aware of how this should work and the limitations, I have a Sony Aibo from 16 years ago that performs voice recognition and am aware of it's limitations. I am stumped what else to try.

Have you tried a restart a few times? Switch Robi off then on and allow him to go through his wake-up procedure, he might just need additional wake-up prompt and should start to respond and ask questions, and you respond etc., aim the voice towards the top of his head rather than mouth.

Hello :)

Took me a good while and different browsers to manage to create a forum account, don't know if you have an issue.

I also am suffering from the same symptoms Robi sits up and asks the question, I answer yes but Robi remains silent with orange eyes. He most definitely has hearing problems.

You keep saying have you tried this and that clicking table etc left and right. In reality this is the initial boot up and u don't get a chance to do that.

Do u have a video of getting past the first question. ?

I hazard a guess that a part is faulty possibly on all as nonone has come forward with a working one yet.

I also was charged on the 4th January after advised would be free, however when I rang up they informed me it was for issue 17 from October allegedly. Has anyone tracked back yet haven't had the time to confirm seems a bit odd especially after receiving invoice too..

Hope you guys manage to send us out the working part trouble free

I wanna start the next project but want this resolved first. :)
