Hi all.
Well my pack 18 finally arrived today. Finished the build and started him up. Initially I had the problems that everyone has been having. After reading through these posts tried saying yes Robi and it's all up and working now. 😃😃😃 The only problems I have is I think I have a bad motor in his right arm which has worked fine up until now luckily I bought some spares so if it doesn't sort itself out will change it. Also the battery did not seem to last very long. I am putting the battery down to more power needed when first turning him on perhaps. Has anyone else had this problem?? Either way thanks everyone for the advice that made my day and got him up and running. 😆😆

Yes... Saying "yes Robi" does work!

However, be careful not to move his arms whilst he is off, it seems make them freeze in position.

Pronounce Robi as a normal Robbie, robee etc.

Hopefully many years of fun lie ahead!

Hopefully it will be down to him not being able to move for so long and with use will be ok. Will wait until the battery is charged to double check. Also does anyone know what the parts No 7 4x 1mm plastic washers x 6 and part No 5 black adhesive strips from issue 70 are for. Have looked through the book but can't see anything anywhere.

Cheers.

BigGrin Hi all

Glad we are getting some progress with start up now and well done all.

The washers and tape are provided in case they are needed the washers are to cure any balance problems and the tape is for the shoulder bars. Look at pages 538 and 539 for the instructions if needed.

As for power and battery life, If you have him doing lots of actions like dancing his power will run out faster than just talking to him.

I have found that if the servo cables are not routed correctly this can lead to chaffing of the cable surfaces which can cause mini shorts and stop servo's working.

Ok, thought everything was going well. But today Robi's arms will not move. Tried reconnecting everything on the cpu board, nothing. Put the test card back in, still the same problem; am I really going to have to take the whole thing apart to fix this?

Anyone have any ideas?

Hi William

If servos go down it will be a strip down and inspect to find the problem. If the arms will not move at all it indicates that the shoulder servos connections will need looking at so check these first then work to the next one and so on.

As I said in another post the servo leads need to be adjusted just right not too tightly as this can lead to chaffing. Also Robi's movement can dislodge the sero cables if they are too tight.

Hi All

Its a good idea to keep Robi's battery fully charged all the time so if he needs a recharge do it straight away. Once fully charged he can be taken off charge and be ready for use.

Well managed to get him to listen on the second attempt. Although I tried No robi to the first question and it worked.

Don't know what difference saying No does though.

He started shouting a word indid not understand then turned off. Can you tell me what this is and how i get him to understand some other words. Iv ran oit of ways to say yes or yeah

Hi Steph

What I have found is that saying the same word in different ways sometimes makes a difference to how he understands you, remember he is a robot and is learning off you as well.

When my Robi needs recharging he sighs, sits down and say's softly 'Please recharge me'. It may be that you have a faulty SD card that needs replacement.

Could you possibly post a short video clip of the language problem here?

Could you possibly post on here a YouTube video link of your Robi saying this as we've not had any such report and we've random checked a quantity of the English SD card. Or you can request a replacement SD card.

Robi can hear and understand words only when spoken clearly with articulation. He may have difficulty understanding a high-pitched voice and in the noisy surroundings.

I had that one as well, he sometimes does the Judjitsi type of sound 3 or 4 times in a row.

It happened when I left him to pass on a message and also when I asked for the list of commands he responds to.

Strange one, we may find the answer on the SD card somewhere. I'm planning to have a look at this sometime soon.
