Hi guys and gals,

Despite still collecting and not starting my Millennium Falcon, I thought I'd dive into this and make a start....very soon. I have this on sub from DeAg, but bought the first issue as they have billed me for 2 & 3, due soon. In the meanwhile, Issue 1 is ready to go! I normally build model aircraft, so this is a real departure for me.

This is like a dream come true.....a working R2 unit that can run around, all on its own Cool

In this for the journey.

I've constructed the first three issues as far as I can go.

Not too much involved in this so far, and probably about 45 minutes work in total. Just a shame I have to wait another month to do any further work. I know there is a seam on one of the external metal leg parts, but I decided to leave it instead of removing the seam and then trying to either match the metal finish or respray all the metal parts. I suppose I can live with it. The same goes for the blue plastic, which will remain unchanged. I will possibly weather the model towards the end...not too sure just yet.

One thing I can't understand about the instructions is where they say to apply superglue to the pin and then insert into the hole. There's more chance of is squeezing outwards if you do this. Always apply into the hole, and then insert the part. That way, and excess is pushed inwards ;) I use thin viscosity CA glue, from the Czech Republic. It's just what I use in my usual modelling genre of building scale model aircraft. CA gel is also good, and perhaps easier if you can be a little clumsy.

So far, so good. I'm real pleased with the fit of all parts, and the instructions are nice and clear. I really can't wait until there's more of this on the table, and something tangible!

I have to say, the screwdriver they supply is not too great!

Roll on next month!

Thanks guys!

The glue is from Fly Model in the Czech Republic www.fly814.cz

You don't need to spend lots of money on CA, and Loctite or Tesco's/Asda's own will do for this model.

Great start, the screwdriver is not the best, get yourself a good Philips PH0 screwdriver.

Thanks James, thought it might be a specialised glue, happy the old supermarket special will do just as good.

Waiting for ours to arrive ATM , think I may wait till I have a few issues before I make a start.

Initial thoughts are whilst the kit looks good its a shame about the positioning of those cast lines on the struts ,
SOME MORNINGS IT JUST DOESN'T SEEM WORTH IT TO GNAW THROUGH THE LEATHER STRAPS

Off to a good start James and really great pics too.

If you resize your photos to 800 x 600 or 640 x 480 it will stop them from going of the screen and making all the text tiny Cool

I will do that for my next photos. Thanks for tip. I know some software resizes through various image utilities, but obviously not on Model Space.

Issues 4 & 5 finally turned up today, and it's just a shame that total construction time is about 10 mins!

Nonetheless, here's my progress so far.

Insert the pivot cover into the hole, and then twist it to lock into position on the leg. I found my cover to be a little rough at one point, but hey, I can say it's weathering Cool

Fitting the Right Ankle Plate is another of those jobs where it just drops into place at the moment, hence the reason why assembly time is almost zero at the moment.

And the job so far:

It's nice to be able to power up the LED cluster, especially to make sure that all is working at this stage. 2 x AA batteries are popped into the new battery box and this is then plugged into the circuit board that came in an easlier issue. With the LED cluster also plugged into the board, the battery box can be switched on and the two buttons depressed to ensure that both the blue and red lights work. All is hunky dory Drool

Issue 5 now starts with the assembly of the bearing into the cast crown of Artoo's head. This is secured with a plate that's secured by two short silver screws.

Aligning the arrows on both the crown and the plastic frame, metal nuts are inserted into the plastic part, and longer silver screws now secure this to the crown.

Loads of screws left, so keep them safe!

Well, that's it for another whole month, as this is a subscription from DeAgostini.

Hope you're enjoying it.
