I can finally get this thread going again as I have resolved my subscription issue. I have finished up to the end of pack 3, looking forward to getting started on pack 4 when I can get the planking going proper. I have to say, I love the wood that's used. My knife goes through it like butter, should make the gunports so much easier.

Chris Thanks all. I nearly came a cropper with the gunports. I thought they went on either way, but they are different. Something to be aware of.

Model space have lost the plot! I finally got my pack 4 through yesterday which I have been charged for. Today, my postie drops off pack 5 and no charge at all on my credit card. I shall call them on Monday to sort it out, but it just made laugh, it's either famine or feast

Stage 33 completed now. I thought after, that I may have been better drilling the false cannon holes before the other side was closed up. Nervous about them popping off when drilling. They are wood glued on, but I put a few dabs of superglue round the edges to secure them further. The rest I shall definitely be driling before closing up the hull. Had a massive brainfart with the sides and put them before without staining the tops. Doh!. Luckily Tamiya masking tape is an excellent barrier and a strip of that along the bottom stopped the walnut stain from running on to the deck. Gratings are done. They are stained a Canadian cedar, then rubbed down to give an older more grubby and patchy look and the ladder is stained medium oak. Happy with proceedings so far. Thanks for looking.

Finished the gunport strips now. Despite my best efforts, there are some unavoidable undulations between the strips, so a little bit of work will needed before the second planks go on. Not too much though, a decent rough sand, bit of filler followed by a smoother sanding down should do nicely.

Looks fine to me too. Some sanding between the first and second layers of planking is almost always necessary.
