Hi Alan, Hi Derek
Straight out of the box this one.
It's a beast when manoeuvring it round the workbench.
I'm very lucky to have the space to do it!!
Hopefully a bit more painting tomorrow then I can get on with adding the 1500 or so parts-oh what fun! But worth it.
Cheers
Alan

Coming along nicely. You need a lot of paint for these 1/200 kits and a big room to spray in! I will be watching this with interest.

Hi Carl. I did indeed underestimate the amount of paint I need. I bought one can for the hull but quickly realised that wasn't going to be enough!
Better order some more I suppose!

Doing a great job. I used 1 and half Tamiya size jars of enamel for the hull red thinned down for airbrush.. It took a while to paint. Chris On the bench 1/350 Revell Tirpitz Platinum Edition (Pontos PE and Wooden deck) plus extra Eduard PE set and extra MK1 door sets.

Regards, Alan I know because I ended up using 5 bottles for the hull and another 5 bottles of vallejo paint for the superstructures on my Arizona. Carl

Hello all
Well the story so far! I ordered one hull red aerosol can which, looking at the lid, looked dark brown. However I test painted a small section on the underside of one of the decks and found it was actually quite good.
Now that I need more, I can't currently find anywhere that is selling this particular brand so I have opted for Tamiya's hull red, even then I had a bit of trouble finding it in aerosol form.
I prefer to use spray cans.
So another hold up in construction although I have painted the boot line. I've also had a re-think about the upper hull grey colour too.
I bought some dark ghost grey as suggested by Trumpeter but a test piece revealed a very light 'bluey' colour.
I've done quite a lot of research about the grey colour in particular and with so many variants I've decided to go for the Humbrol mid-sea grey.
Two reasons. One, I can buy it in aerosol form, and two I'm happy with it!!
Will post more pics once the hull is painted and then I can start the build proper.
Regards
Alan

Hi Jason
I have to be honest and say I have been a bit anxious to start as it is a large model, with, as you know, nearly 1500 parts and some intricate painting required, however now I have started and having researched the Hood I feel at ease and really enjoying the build.
I keep thinking about the crew when it went down, it must have been terrifying and I feel a sense of duty now to make a good job in their memory!
Regards.
Alan

Alan That is coming along very well. Always difficult working out how much paint you need as its something you can spend a lot of money on. Hope all goes well with the rest of the build. Happy Modelling

Hi Alan Hopefully im not too late in helping you out with the RN anti fowling red colour, Tamiya's hull red is based on the IJN standard hull red and is a brown/purple in colour when it dries. This colour is far from the more red anti fowling that RN ships had at that period. There is a Tamiya spray can available that is the closest I have found to the required colour, this is TS-33 Dull Red. Two cans should cover a 1/350 or 1/200 scale hull. Andy Current builds:-C57,Zero, Lamborghini Countach, Caldercraft HMS Agamemnon,Robi,R2-D2, MFH Cobra .

Thanks everyone for looking in. always nice to have support! Andy thank you,I bought some Tamiya dull red, and tried a test piece and looks good. I thought there was a spelling mistake-dull was supposed to read hull when I first started looking for this colour,so didn't buy it but clearly not! Now the build has finally got underway I will post pictures when I can-work beckons Regards Alan
