I've just started my build and have ordered the paint set. Is there a list of component colors for the HMS Sovereign? Dwight

Thanks for the responses. In Pack 1 the cannon carriages are painted red, looking at completed models the carriages may be yellow or wood color. I'd like to build an accurate Sovereign, are the colors in the instructions the most accurate ones?

Hi Dwight the colours of the gun carriages are a bit of a speculation as no plans or drawings are available for this ship and lots of captains had their own ideas on painting but red was a popular colour . I stained mine a brick red colour so the wood showed through. Hope this helps rgd Martyn Building ? Completed. Soliei Royal . Sovereign of the Seas . Virginia . Scotland . San Felipe . Dwight U Phillips wrote:I'd like to build an accurate Sovereign This may be impossible. Pretty much every model of the Sovereign is based on the Robert Sepping model of 1830. Unfortunately that model does not actually feature the stern gallery of the actual Sovereign of the Seas, but instead an approximation pretty far removed from the actual thing. The real stern gallery as it was worn by the Sovereign can be seen in the 1645 painting "Peter Pett and the Sovereign of the Seas" http://collections.rmg.c...tions/objects/14422.html

Thanks guys for the enlightenment on colors. It sounds like following the plan colors I should be representative of the original Sovereign. Super.

It is often very hard to know exactly what the original ship looked like.In many cases the original plans no longer exist and the models are therefore based on paintings or illustrations combined with books covering ship construction etc.... it is also not uncommon for a museum model to be used by many others at the benchmark for accuracy when in fact even the museum model was made using the same assumptions and varied sources for information.
