Another little update I just finished tonight for my hold. Originally, I built a small little recess for under the floor hatch, not knowing how much clearance there would be. But since receiving the hold support a while back, I decided to extend the depth of the hatch recess. Because technically, a person can just about stand in it, so it needs to be fairly deep. So my original recess was this deep, compared to the support. ORIGINAL   Obviously, there's much more room underneath. A good 3/4" or so. So I took the old one apart and did some styrene extension walls to deepen the recess.   I then added an additional pipe running along, because there are 3 pipes in ESB, as you can see when Han is below trying to fix the Falcon. And as before, I cut away some other greeblies from my old MPC Falcon and glued them to the sides for additional detail. I also bent some wire and ran it through the sides creating pipes coming in and bending downward.   A bit more detail painting and voila.....   And put back under the hold. I think it makes it even more realistic, seeming deeper like there's a lot going on underneath.

So.... another little update on what I've been doing. I drilled out holes well over a year ago for the red caution lights around the bottom hull of the Falcon. Upon putting fiber in and lighting it up, while it worked fine, I wanted something more. I wanted it to look like the actual light housings seen in the movie. But I couldn't figure out how to make a housing that small. Then I came across these wire ferrules by fluke.  Now my idea was to pop out the center pin and cut them in half. They're roughly the same shape as the lights and the correct size. And my 1.5mm fiber fit inside them beautifully.   In theory, this was a great idea. But extremely small to work with. Because the ferrules were 3mm themselves, drilling into them was very tricky, and hard to do cleanly, because the plastic would heat up. Here was one that I made.  You can see, it's rather crude. It basically worked, and because of being so small, actually not bad to the eye. Much worse in a close up photo. BUT.... by accident I came across someone on Shapeways who made the caution light housings. I was concerned that they wouldn't be small enough, but because they were pretty cheap, I took the plunge to check them out. They were actually slightly smaller than what I was doing myself, but looked exactly right.  So I painted them black to block light from showing through the plastic, then painted the gray color.   And here we have some installed in the Falcon.   I'm very happy with the way these are working out. I've been trying to do everything from scratch as much as possible, but these were so difficult to try and do that way. And I didn't want to just have a bit of fiber coming through the hull and lighting up. Doesn't quite look right to me. So I'm glad I found these. I like the realism it adds to the ship. And one other thing I just did. I cut the hold support to fit around my pit area so that I can still mount the hold correctly. Worked great.

Great work, love the lights. I did something pretty similar to the hold base as you, but I used the leg, that we cut off to make way for the pit, cut it to size and glued it into the stub on the hull. That way when I placed the hold area in the Falcon, the underside of the pit rested on the cut piece of leg. Love what you are doing, keep up the great work. Regards Mark

Regards Mark My hold pit ends up being the same height as the leg, so that portion of the hold will just rest on the bottom of the pit.

OK. So here's my current dilemma. As you can see from my posts above, I've added my caution lights around the bottom of the Falcon... TO A POINT. Does anyone have ABSOLUTE LEGITIMATE schematics or blueprints of caution lights in the rear of the Falcon? As there are no shots in any of the films showing them in the rear portion. I have the known placements of the pairs in front of the forward landing gear wells, the ones on either side (forward and rear) of the escape pods (boarding ramp), and the 2 on the center, just under the missile tubes basically. I will also be adding the 2 on each of the escape pods once I'm at that point. So again, the rear of the Falcon. I've seen some people adding them to the 4 corners of the rear landing gear wells, but I see no evidence of that in the films or any documentation. I have the Hanes Millennium Falcon manual, and there's nothing in there. My issue with the lights on the 4 corners of the rear landing gear wells is that it's not consistent with the front. The front lights are on the hull in front of the gear wells, not on the wells themselves. I'm just debating with myself on whether or not I should add any additional lights to the rear, and if so... where?

Using a questionable source (Battlefront) there are red caution lights on the saucer section where the hull meets the rear landing gear boxes. Not sure if you'd want to use that model but it does allow you to see the lower hull of the Falcon from the rear with the caution lights on.

I've seen that site before and no caution references. I've done tons of screen grabs from the films and there's just never a shot showing the rear. I probably shouldn't even worry about it. Either I do nothing, as there's no reference, or I may add a single light to the rear corner of the gear well on the hull, not the gear well itself. Like in this photo.

While the game is not necessarily definitive, it's probably the only thing out there officially licensed by Lucasfilm that has a caution light at all.
