Can anyone tell me what the 'bitts' are of a boat? Does anyone have any images?

Hi E Bitts are vertical posts which are used to belay ropes to. This picture is of my part completed HMS Halifax model. If you look at the bulwarks round the bows, you will notice there are 12 posts each with a notch carved in it. These are bitts to which various bits of rigging will eventually be tied. You can also see the two posts with a horizontal bar across. This is the riding bitts and is used to secure the end of the anchor cable when the ship is lying to its anchor. Victory's riding bits are down on the middle gun deck and therefore, as such, won't be shown on a model. Hope this helps - Any bitt of information can be useful Mike T
