Using a similar technique for drawing curves and cross-referencing photos of U995 I made a profiled piece to represent the upper deck of the lower conning tower platform. It was when I got to this stage I felt that I was relying to heavily on guess work so I came to the conclusion that more research was required. This view shows the larger piece that makes up the floor of the lower platform in place. Alas, it is too wide. After studying the U995 photos for ages I realised, as I've mentioned before, that a measured drawing or a donor model is the only way to absolutely get this part correct. This picture shows the conning tower sub-assembly mounted on the laminate stand with a slightly wider 0.5mm sheet fixed underneath the tower and profile piece. This sheet acts as a support and ties the tower and profile together preventing warping and disfigurement. It protrudes about 1mm around the border of the tower and rear profile. Thanks for your kind words Phil. You've been extremely helpful with your suggestions. To be perfectly honest, I won't actually mind buying a donor model once i'm satisfied that every other avenue has been checked and it's getting to that point. I've got to get it right after all the effort I've put in so far. Cutting a few corners for the sake of saving a bit of cash by 'making do' won't cut it in the end. It is what it is.
