The meat goes on the bones and looking great. I do like the construction of this kit its almost like a secret gluing process that cant be seen after full construction very clever Current builds:-C57,Zero, Lamborghini Countach, Caldercraft HMS Agamemnon,Robi,R2-D2, MFH Cobra .

Lovely start Alan, just a question though - I know this is a triple layer planking kit the same as my armed launch but was wondering why they have the inside (first) layer as limewood not walnut. Generally the layers would be walnut inside the hull, then lime in between and then walnut veneer outside Or maybe this was just the case in the kit I have? Steve

[quote=magpie1832]Awesome Alan. Nice update and info on your progress. I will be watching your progress carefully as this is something I would love to attempt. I don't think my skills are three yet but will attempt one for sure. Thanks for sharing. Chris [/quote Thanks Chris, I know with your skills you could take this one on no problem. All I say is that it is not a kit for the novice, experience is necessary.... She's a challenge in her own way.... Regards Alan

Just now I'm gluing quite sparingly where there s a chance of it being seen and later the first layer will be painted over with diluted PVA, the next planking layer being applied after that.... Steve Hi Steve, thanks for your comments appreciated... .. This build is similar to the armed launch but is not the same. Your launch does have a triple layer of planking but this build only has two layers, the first with 1.5 x 6mm limewood and the second layer with 1.5 x 7mm limewood. Hope this answers your question... Regards Alan

The build continues but at a slow pace now, has to be slow due to the way the planks are applied. All in all though, am really happy with how its going with 4 rows of planking now added and will say its starting to feel pretty solid. To help keep the plank in place I am able to pin at the edge of the plank and use the pin head to keep the plank against the rib until the glue on the plank edges sets. Once dry the pins can be removed and the plank stays in situ allowing the next plank to be added..... .. Most of the time its waiting for the glue to dry thoroughly....Onto the next rows.... Happy building all... Regards Alan Gandale attached the following image(s):

I just noticed this build; it's nice to see something different. But, a few questions, if you don't mind: Do you have to taper the plank widths at the bow? And, do you have to bevel the plank edges to make them meet each other well along the curves? (I would think that it would make sense to measure the bulkhead distances from deck to keel at midships and at the bow and stern, and plan to taper the planks appropriately so that you wouldn't need to worry about drop planks, etc...) But, thanks for posting this build. I think it looks great so far.

The planks do have a bevel along their edge depending on where the meet the next plank along the length of the hull. Some of the planks also have a slight taper at the bow but every build does have its differences... .. The build is being done as an OOB, no mention of droppers but will see how the build progresses.... Regards Alan
