Have now finished the upper planking. Not perfect by any means but the paint will cover up the minor miss haps. Well thats it for now, time to start the lower hull, not looking forward to that with those tight bends on the stern, but going to give it a go. I have also subscribed to the endevour model, i must be a glutton for punishment but it keeps me out of trouble.

I have just started the lower hull planking but on the bow im getting steps in the planking. Allthough i think it will sand out ok, why am i getting this step. Is it because i have not faired the hull properley or is there another reason. Your help with this is appreciated in advance.

this is what we mean by clinkering, one plank over the next, let the plank go where it want's to go,mark and taper,if it needs more tapering, you will have to fit a dropper, also twist the plank as well, that helps, everyone will get this clinkering effect, but you must sort it or it gets progressivey worse.read up on all the otherbuilds I recommend son of bulwark, where he shows how to counteract this.hope this helps. Current builds: SotS, USS Consitution, San Felipe, D51 loco, HMS Surprise, RB7, Arab Dhow, Jotika HMS Victory Completed builds: HMS Pickel, Thermopylae, Mississipi river boat, Mary Rose, Cutty Sark, San Francisco II, HMS Victory x5, Titanic Lifeboat, Panart HMS Victory Launch, Hachette Titanic, Virginia Schooner, Endeavour Longboat. http://www.model-space.com/gb/

Thanks Karl was a great help. While waiting for planks to dry before i fit them on the stern. (Karl, im learning the terminolgy now. LOL) i made a start on the gun port linings. Not got very far as its took me half a day just to put the side peices on the lower gun ports and now realise how long this build is going to take. On another not. I had very stern words with customer service of the endevour one today. I subscribed via the net and not heard anything, phoned them up to be told i was not subscribed even though i have e mails from them. Hopefully will start and get those issues soon. Foz

Hi Foz hope you don't mind some help from a newbee, but it looks as though you should have chamfered the planks a bit, trimmed them and given them a bit of a twist as well. Come on you Jimmies

Saintsman i totaly agree with what you and Karl have said. Went to start row 5 of the lower planking today and the stearn did not look right at all so decided to have another go at it. I have not removed all the planks just cut the rear ones of at frame 25. I know it wil not look right with the planks all starting there but i have the venear now to double plank it. I am fairly happy with the bow so am leaving that as it is. Any way, thanks for all your help and avice its greatley appreciated. Foz

Hi Foz! The stern planks looks much better this time, you should find that the planks fit OK! from here on just remember to taper more as the plank is bent over the transom until the planks start to go onto the concave part of the transom were the planks will turn away from the planks already glued.

Have carried on with the lower planking. Its takin time but it looks a lot better now than the first time i tried it. So stripping of the planks AGAIN has paid of this time. And thanks to Darren for the excellent explanation on fitting the stearn planking. Still got 4 more rows to do before fitting the gardoard plank, which gives was to a question. It says DO NOT BEND THE BOW PLANK yet the pics in issue 36 show a slight bend to it. Am i miss reading or looking at the picture wrong. Thanks for all the comments. Back to it now Foz

It means don't bend the bow plank down the front of the bow, but stop it short at the point shown in the step, where it just starts to bend.

Been a while since posted on here, but have slowly been getting the lower hull plankin done. Have just finished one side with around 5 rows of plankin left on the other. I completley SC***D up the plankin by not following the instructions properly or the advice on here and the bow section just dont look right. There seems to be a dip in it. Will let you all decide on what it looks like in the pics Any comments and help always welcome.

Looking at your pictures if you had started to slightly taper two or three planks up from the gun ports you may have been OK. Otherwise looks a very nice build. Regards CMB

Cheers Karl. Well the venear is taking a while but have just finished the top half of one side. You will notice that i have left a part, after looking at Tomiks diary i see that more gun ports are cut out so i will add the venear after that stage is done. Think i just need to touch the red gun ports up, but that can wait for a while why i get the other side done. Leaving the bottom half untill the top half is finished so i can carry on with the build properly. Any comments are welcome. Foz
