Morning everyone. I decided to double plank and WOW does it make a difference. I used a mahogany strip for the upper decks above the waterline. My beloved husband(not) looked at the boat yesterday and said I should have used a lighter wood as it needs a darker wood below the water line. As I have almost completed two thirds on one side I feel he may be right. I am not coppering the bottom so what do I do now. 1 Do I use the same wood for all the outside 2 Can I get a very dark strip for the bottom 3 How easy will it be to remove the strips I have already put on 4 If I do remove the mahogany what is the ideal wood combination I am not very keen on painting the boat. I NEED HELP please  Pam

if you dont want to remove anny compleat it in one colour the real boat is then use the whales to brake it up with a different colour

hi pam,take a look at my attempt,it has got the whales on only the third row to do.will give you some idea what it looks like. Pam as you are not painting the ship, does it really matter? If you decide to use a dark colour above the waterline then try using light coloured wales (as karl suggests) and perhaps try a stain/varnish that compliments it below the waterline I'm sure there will be loads of variations in stains chosen by everyone building the ship, and the way you have done it puts your individual mark on the build Come on you Jimmies

Hi Pam!  As the others have said use a lighter wood for the wales to give a contrast, you have mahogany for the upper hull section, you could use walnut which is darker for the lower hull and something light like maple for the wales or even the lime wood supplied. Karl has opted to have white whales? Don’t tell Captain Ahab  or he'll thing it Moby-Dick, but it does look good, it all down to getting a contrast between the wood sections. It is your ship so it's up to you.

the whales is planks fitted between the gun ports see issue 42 you can see karls photos in the members build diaries

thanks karl and WOW Your Victory looks great I will use your pictures to help me with the build. Double planking has really made a difference I couldn't believe my eyes. Thank goodness we have the forum and all the knowledge on it. Many thanks everyone Pam xxxx
