With this job done I could place the template over the hole and have none of the original vents showing through. The problem with this was that the very thin 0.25mm sheet that the templates were made of had no support from behind, thus leaving them very weak, vulnerable with a very short shelf life.

I imagined pushing my finger through at some point in the future.

So I made and glued in place a rough lattice work of 0.5mm thick plastic sheet to offer support for the patterned templates.

The attached photo shows the lattice work 80% complete on the starboard side.

I then glued the template in place, applied filler to the edges, allowed an overnight dry before sanding smooth.

With all the mishaps that had occurred i'm very happy with the end result.

Now for the Port side. The template was already made as mentioned before but this time I created the recess without the dremel, just a craft knife and a needle to shape it.
