So here we are as promised, the review of the King Tiger from Meng in the battle of the King Tigers!
Takom released their kit with full interior, retailing around £50 mark, Meng have released their kit with no interior at around the £30 mark. At first glance you would think Meng have dropped the ball on this one, until you open the box! It is full to the brim with parts!
The sprues are full of really crisp parts and highly detailed, cast in red oxide, so for those doing heavy detail and weathering, its a result. Meng have made the exterior of this kit even more detailed than the Takom kit, and in my mind is even better than Tamiya and Dragon! The armour plating is to scale, and you also get some figures. A photo etch sheet is included and has excellent detail and a really nice metal barrel.
The Instruction book is usual Meng, easy to follow and nicely detailed and well laid out.
Now for the add ons. Meng offer 3 additional sets to this kit, Interior, workable tracks and zimmerit. I will review these as they arrive. But well done Meng, very clever! Why? Well They have catered for every modeler by releasing a superbly detailed KT straight from the box, surpassing Tamiya and Dragon for cheaper money! The Takom kit will only interest those who want a full interior to build at the same time, where as Meng hits the spot for everyone, but you get the option to out build Takom by adding the upgrades that are specifically designed for their own kit and have better detail in my opinion. Well played Meng!
So who wins? They both are in my book as they have both released superb kits that cater for all styles of modeller, now all I have to do is build them!LOL BigGrin

Nice review. And great to compair with other manufacturers. The etch zimmerite is a great idea as an option too. Some of the Tamiya kits have mixed up the production changes and so are not corecct at all.

May have to get one of theseDrool

My only complanit is with the box art, I have said this before but will say it again, its not a Henschel turret its a Krupp turret or even a production turret but not Henxchel.

Great review

Nem I was so impressed with your review that I went and brought one.Its been about 35 years since I last built a tank so I may be a little rusty.

Hi Nemesis, do you mind if I wade in on this thread with a review? Am currently building the Meng King Tiger and am on the final stages of the Takom King Tiger.
Nothing I say will clash with what you have said.

By all means, I have not built mine yet, so a look at the kit from someone who has is always welcome, as it may highlight any problems in the construction that would benefit others. BigGrin Just a quick tip, if you resize your pictures to 660 pixels wide they will show on the forum.BigGrin
