At least it keeps the build intersting - If I'd have wanted things that easy I would have bought a plastic kit.
You do not need a parachute to skydive. You only need a parachute to skydive twice.

I've solved the problem (for me anyway), as I'm not ever going to get historical accuracy, I've taken the barrel from a couple of the cannons, and filed down the groove where the barrel pivots, this has lowered the barrel enough to get them through, I have also filed the wheels to make them a bit thinner which allows me to centralise the guns in the port if I run them out.

This seems to be the best method of solving this one.

I have put the deck supports back in place to raise the deck back to its proper height. I have over sanded the deck where it meets the deck supports by 0.5mm I have then copied saintsman123's idea of lower the pivit point of the barrel. I have done this by approx 1mm on all cannons. I have made a wooden section to replace the brass pieces that doesn't look to bad

This has lowered the cannon barrels by 1.5mm in the gun ports and hey-presto it works a treat and I only have 0.5mm to make up which shouldn't be to difficult.

Bearing in mind some of the measurements we've been taking are to an accuracy of 0.5mm or just over 4cms scaled up, it's a bit odd that this is so far out according to Tomicks build isn't it?

I've been looking at the build on model shipworld

http://modelshipworld.co...r=asc&&start=50

Scroll down till you see the pic of the guns agains the ports

I know that the model we are building is basedon the A/L kit, and that as it is a partwork not everything is exactly the same as the original kit, but I can see from this persons build that the cannons are slightly different, they look ever so slightly smaller to me as they seem to fit well inside the cutout portion of the gun port, and looking at the front of the carriage it almost fits inside the linings. Does this mean (as I mentioned in an earlier post)that our cannons are maybe slightly larger than those that the hull dimesions require? As I say I understand that our model is not the exact A/L kit, especially as it looks as though this builder has no gun rigging (and that the A/L kit comes with more "real" cannons, but if you look at other pictures of his build, the barrels seem a bit smaller, I know it's difficult to tell exactly from a photo, but this is just my opinion.

I think we are still waiting for Tomick to comment on his build and to say if he has tried one of the cannons against the port.

You'll see the result when the diary build for issue 50 is posted later this week, and before you ask no adjustment or 'made to fit' gone on.

Couldn't help my self, had to meddle, and have now found out why my ports are too low

In Issue 29 page 10/11, the top of the gunports is on a 1/2 plank, with all the other detail in the drawing it was difficult to count all the planks, so when the ports were marked out, I marked them all along making sure I was on the 1/2 plank at the top, this meant by the centre area I was at 2&1/2 from the top, which is 1/2 a plank too low, hence all the guns hit the top.

The instuctions in the mag say "when marking the positions of the ports, refer to this plan"

So thats what I did

However when you turn the page, and look at the various steps, step 8 is a good close up, it shows the port marked on the join of a plank which is 2 planks down (although if you look at step 5 the far right upper port looks lower than the rest)

So the plan say's one thing and the pics show another, so thats the reason my ports are too low.

Looking at MrT's build, he's gone as per the pictures, so his ports are going to be ok. If you have followed the plan you may have a problem, if you have followed the photo's you should be OK

the pictures in that build show his cannons are pointing down too along the middle gun deck
