Hi Is it me, or does this build look easier than Victory? maybe it's because the bulkheads are pre-formed. Either way she looks a beauty!

It's definitely more forgiving when planking than the Victory. HMS Victory only has a single planking layer as opposed to the two to three layers of the Soleil Royal, so you need to lay the planks pretty much perfect from the get go. There are also more complicated bends to do in the stern then with Soleil Royal. Cutting out the gun ports is much easier with the SR thanks to the gun port strips. They also lend much needed robustness to the ship and a clear line for the first planking row. The one area where Victory is easier is the bow. There's a lot more bow formers employed which the SR is lacking. It's quite easy to introduce dimples in the SRs bow if one doesn't specifically focus on avoiding them. In retrospect I would fill up the bow area with balsa blocks if I had to do it again.

Good points, well made. Do you have to fit the sails or can you leave it bare? It doesn't say in the instructions like it does for Victory.

The instructions only give you the option for the sails. If you were to want it without then you would need to find rigging plans for it. Mostly the rigging is the same though. Chris On the bench 1/350 Revell Tirpitz Platinum Edition (Pontos PE and Wooden deck) plus extra Eduard PE set and extra MK1 door sets.

One option I'm seriously considering is doing a hull only model like the SR in Paris. With all the decorative work on the hull, the masts and rigging would only serve to distract from that. All of the mastwork and rigging is done in the last 10 stages, so the kit kinda leaves that option in the way it's structured to just building up to stage 130 and then stopping.
