Hi guys, first post here.

I bought a "second hand" Robi from someone who said it wasn't working... he said it was working and then stopped moving arms then legs, etc...

We dissambled him and started to put him together from scratch.

We found one fried motor and 3 broken cables (one of them responsable for the fried motor - we even had smoke coming out). We replaced those parts with new ones. Also not all motors were properly programmed.

Obviously as Robi was already used, he didn't wake up for a first time as when you finished putting him together, he just turns on.
So this also means we couldn't program him answering his questions, so not sure if the programming has issues (based on how poorly assembled he was, I wouldn't be surprised).

Now, issues with Robi:

1) When we turn him on from laying position he doesn't stand up or sits down even when requested to do so. I think he believes he's standing up as his position seems OK, so we manually stand him up. The problem is he is not well balanced as he is in a akward position, and the moment he starts moving he falls backwards.

2) Sometimes he replies, sometimes he doesn't... he seems a "special" Robi.

3) He doesn't follow most of the orders. He does turn on and off TV for example, but doesn't change channels or volume up or down.
He dances. He sings. Nothing more than that.

4) His eyes are fixed in orange (never saw them blue).

I think my question is if it's possible to reset him to re-program him... or should we replace the sd card? Would that help with the voice recognition issues?

Thank you in advance!!!

Sol.
We assembled him following each step and each test.

Hi Solcita

Robi only wakes up one time only after that you usually start him from the standing position.

Falling backward issues can be fixed by adding the white washers provided in stage 70 to the rear of Robi's feet but check that all screws are correctly tightened first and that all the D cuts joining the servos are correctly aligned.

Sometimes saying sit Robi is better than just sit.

You could try checking the connections to the eyes but you may have to replace them with new to get them working correctly.

Robi has to learn as you speak to him so try keeping your tone at an even level and talk slowly as he learns your voice tone he should improve over time. You could try a new SD card but it may make no difference.

Once Robi has woken up for the first time this is the only time you can input anything after that he can not be reprogramed.

Thank you for the reply.
We installed a fresh sdcard (found a backup copy). He did the first wake up and questoning for his character. And now he is obeying more, sometimes we have to repeat the orders mostly because this Robi is in Japanese and we are not Native speakers.

We made him do the balance game and he did it perfectly, until the end when he fell... so it seems the problem is in one leg only. We will check it out...

Thank you :)
