This picture shows the start of shaping and contouring a 0.5mm plastic sheet so that it fits the saddle tank. The uncut piece i'm holding will be removed later.

When I was happy with the fit of the profile I held it in place and drew around the outer shape of the saddle tank onto the excess plastic sheet I was holding. I carefully cut away the excess, checked it against the saddle tanks to make sure it was correct and then marked out, with a fine permanent pen, the area to remove internally. Removing an internal section gives the impression of depth to the tank ends matching the part-works supplied brass-etched parts for the Control Room and Engine Room.

The attached image shows the profiled piece cut to size and marked out.

Once happy, I proceeded to remove two internal sections. This picture shows them removed.

This photo shows the profile piece being glued to a 0.5mm plastic sheet. This backing sheet improves strength and durability and also highlights the tank ends internal shape similar to the part-works supplied pieces.

This photo shows the completed scalloped and profiled tank end glued in place. I think it looks in keeping with the rest of the U-boat.

As with the previous profiled tank end, it was checked again for fit and look before attaching the backing sheet.
