As anyone heard anything else about how/when/cost of the copper plates or strips? as the wales are in place and things are moving on to the upper decks it would be nice to finish all the hull detailing first!Cool
Happy Building, Russ

Any news on this topic ??Blushing
What poured gasoline in my fire was Tomick, who said:
Quote:
The hull of my build is to have copper tiling, and therefore my build for this issue reflects the copper tile route which will be continued at a later stage.

Hi Tomick, Thank you for the answer, seems I missed that post.
If I concider copper tiling, wouldn't it be smarter for me to skip most
of the detailed steps during the current UK issues, to finish the hull first after planking? I supposed one has to turn the hull upside down to do so.

Cheers, Timm

I read this last night, in another post, seems to sum things up, Underhill seems p*** off by the contant copper plating moans.

I don't post much as I just get on with things, I have posted a few times to ask a specific question, and received very good answers from Tomick and others. Now it may just be me, but I'm getting fed up with the copper plating thing. I looked back at my initial issue, and saw that copper plating would be an extra option at extra cost, if anyone is going down that line, why don't you just wait and see what happens. Tomick has stated in his official build diary that he is going to copper plate. So all you builders out there who are going to use copper just wind your necks in and just wait and see what happens, you will not be forgotten as Tomick is copper plating, I know I am repeating that a lot, but it seems that there are people on the forum that seem to think that this is a slagging off arena and general De Agostini put down area, but at the end of the day, thay are supplying us with a very good model, at a price that makes it affordable for us who cannot buy the full kit straight away. As stated by Tomick and Deag they can only help with the official magazine build, if anyone goes off and does their own thing with the kit, then it is up to the individual to sort out their own mess, and yet again, copper plating is NOT part of the build, it is an option, so lets just keep quiet about it until Deag and Tomick tell us when copper is available, and stop cluttering up the forum with questons about copper plating.

As I said at the start I don't post much, but when something irks me then I have to give my input.

Rant over.

Hi mate,
basically I agree with you. I did not intend to bother anybody and
certainly not start whining or complaining. We had plenty of that.
I simply wanted to know.

.. and as there seem to be differences between DeAg UK and other countries...
My issue #1 did NOT mention that. And there I have the next prob.
In case DeAg Germany does not offer those plates, it will be difficult for me.
Last time I tried to order at the online-shop here, they did not ship outside the UK.

Hope this explained why I posted again on this subject.
Have to keep my fingers crossed.

Hi Timm

Unfortunatley we can only supply the UK through our current system, the German market are aware of our plans to supply the copper bottom as an optional extra but how they fulfil it will be up to each individual market.

To those it may concern and especially
for all german members of the forum:

I have just contacted DeAgostini Germany and asked them about this subject.
Here is their answer:

Wir erhielten die Mitteilung, dass dieses Thema zur Zeit noch nicht abschließend entschieden ist. Sollte das Angebot auch in Deutschland gelten, werden Sie in jedem Fall darüber informiert.

We were informed that no decision has been made on this issue.
In case this offer will be available in Germany as well,
we will definitely inform you.

So lets wait and see.

Cheers, Timm

BigGrin Hi Timm, I am NOT a ship modeller of any description, though I do take an interest in this ship modelling forum, purely because I like to look at models of any kind and have been following the builds for quite some time now. I am however building the DeAgostini McLaren F1 car, so I like to read all posts whether ships or not.

The point of my posting a reply to yours is that you seem to be in a predicament, where you want the copper plating but DeAg Germany doesn't include it and you can't buy from DeAg UK because they won't send it to you in Germany?? This is where I thought I might jump in and offer a possible solution!!

From reading your build diary, amongst others, it seems that all builders on this site are a very friendly and helpful bunch and it occurred to me that maybe you could ask if any of the Victory builders in the UK would be willing to help you out as a fellow 'Victory' builder, by ordering and paying for the copper plate set from DeAg UK on your behalf, to be sent by DeAg to that buyer in the UK and they could then repack for safety and send it on to your address in Germany by 'Recorded Delivery' and you could then reimburse them financially for all costs?? Assuming that DeAg Germany decides NOT to offer the coppering at a later date of course?? Alternatively, do you have any friends or relatives in the UK who could do the same thing?? Just a constructive thought and maybe a solution to your problem?? BigGrin

Will keep that in mind as a last chance in case nothing else works.
But again, lets wait and see.
As the german subscriptions are months behind the UK,
I can observe the development from here.
Maybe everything will work out fine and all this hurly-burly was for nothing.
I hope so ;-)

i would like to add to this discusion, having seen a friend of mine from denmark, who at the mioment is coppering his cutty sark, what he is doing is using paper tiles stuck on brick pattern and overlapped, then spraying copper paint,so far the results look promising,I may go that way,and also use the pinwheel to replicate the rivots/copper nails.this seems to be a good and very cheap way to copper the hull.

Karl, further to your post I am looking at coppering alternatives.

A website called shipwrights shop are offering tiles measuring 18x 5.5 mil at £2.45 per hundred. I am not an engineer or a mathematician but a crude calculation would suggest that about 2520 tiles would be needed to cover the lower hull at a cost of about £60.00. I am not sure that I am comfortable with this so I am looking for a cheaper alternative that will look aesthetically pleasing. I would like to try copper tape but have been unable to source any.

Here you go spigs, http://www.tempsfordstai...d_Edco_copper_foil.html
I have used these guys for tape for coppering my Thermopylae build...very good value for money...just don't use strips more than 6" long as it may cause problems with expansion & contraction. To see what the effect is just click on the blue SV Thermopylae link at the bottom of this post & scroll through till you find the coppering part.Good luck

PS. Yes it is a stained glass supplier...but the best place to get the foil an old modeller told me.

Thanks for the info. Have looked at this site and they have 7/32"(approx 5mm) x 36 yds at £6.20 a roll.black or silver back at £7.72 per roll. Questions for you. Is the product with a self adhesive backing? What is the significance of black/silver backing - is it worth paying the extra for this?

Remember that the tape is used for stain glass decoration -- The silver or black finish will show through from the otherside of the glass if required. For sticking on hulls, the cheaper version is going to be fine. I'm personally looking forward(??) to sticking on possibly 3000+ tiles as supplied with the Caldercraft kit. Just got to get my planking done first!!
