BigGrin Hi All

You could say I have been searching for this ship kit for the past 10 years and its a very rare beast but I finally got one at a reasonable priceBigGrin Drool Love LOL .

Firstly some history, at the age of around 10 [many moons agoBlink ] I was asked by a friend to help him build a ship model that turned out to be the above ship. After helping him I promised myself that one day I would build this ship for myself. Well time passes and life takes over but around 10 years ago I did finally start searching and couldnt find it anywhere, long out of production and not a super popular kit to begin with.

Its been a long search but I won this off flea-bay on Monday for £43 with postage and that is cheap compared to some of the prices around the £100 mark I have seen and it arrived today.

This is the reboxed and brown plastic 200th anniversary edition from a few years back the original having different box art and was in black plastic. The kit is a typical airfix kit of the period, minimal parts with those vac-formed sails but has paint, glue and rigging thread included.

The last picture shows the rigging making device also included in the kit with full instructions on how to make the rat lines.

So you could say iv finally got the holy grail kit from my childhood and im well chuffed

Nice find Cool

Great Western in kit form is rare in its own right and quite possibly Airfix is the only company to have ever produced such be it in plastic or wood.

That's a great find!Cool
This is one I never did get in my childhood days - had the Victory, Cutty Sark and Wasa for certain and possibly the Royal Sovereign, but would have loved this one!Drool

BigGrin Hi All

Thanks for looking in and your comments both of you and you sound as pleased as I am that I found it.

As a side note there are a couple of the in the bag airfix 1/1200 scale kits on fleabay right now asking price around £50 so as a comparison price to my larger scale kit I did very well I think.

Now this brings back memories, nice to see one again after all these years.
Man he took his time in the sun
Had a dream to understand
A single grain of sand
He gave birth to poetry
But one day will cease to be
Greet the last light of the library...We were here!

I built all the airfix tall ships in my youth this always had a place in my heart and I've checked eBay a few times for it but never been lucky enough. I discovered this post on my look through the net tonight hope you start it soon so I can follow along with you.

It's always great to get a bargain and even better when it evokes so many memories of care free days, i would imagine you're gagging to get going with this one ?
