BigGrin Hi all

Decided to make a start on this baby . To begin with I need a dry dock so out comes my trusty pine logs, I have three of these two long and one short over 5 years old now and still straight. I also tried another way of fixing the keel to the dock. this comprises of two L shape aluminium bars that are screwed to the dock that holds the false keel in place.

A few of the formers got snagged by the bar so it was a case of filing grooves so they fitted correctly. Progress so far is the formers have all been glued in place on the keel and the decks placed on to the frames without glueing with weights on to keep it all square until its dry.

More soon.

BigGrin Hi All

More done after leaving the former's to dry overnight. This kit is the updated one so some parts need to have adjustments made.

The cross pieces between formers 6, 7 and 8 need to have 5mm square hole cut in them at each end so the bearers that hold the paddle wheel covers in place can be positioned, note that the bearers are dry fitted for now. Krick also provide a pre-cut to the correct size brass tube along with the pre-cut axle, the tube was epoxyed to the centre of the cross-formers.

This done the fillets and plank bearer's were added to each end of the wheel wells. The last job for today was to add the pre-cut balsa fillets to the bow and stern a nice touch to be provided with the kit. The balsa is quite soft and will sand very quickly when I tackle the next job which is the fairing of the hull.

More soon.

BigGrin Hi All

Started on the planking. The instructions say to lay the first plank along the hull where the first transition takes place. Basicly the hull spreads 2/3rds the way up to accommodate the paddle wheel housing and the steam engine ,there is then another transition to get to the bulwarks this gives the hull a very pleasing to the eye shape and one reason I liked the model so much.

So first plank was laid either side yesterday and left to fully dry overnight. I could have carried on planking down but this is run of the mill planking and can be done anytime. So instead I went up and planked the two transition surfaces and the inner wheel well.

No real problems encountered with the planking the lime wood provided did its job admirably well and need no soaking to get it around the curves at the stern. You can see in the pictures that the axle and wheel well supports have had there hole cut out and are still dry fitted.

Some of you may be thinking the bulwarks wont allow the wheel houses to be fitted but the assembled wheel houses are used as templates so hole can be cut to accommodate them.

More soon.

Very sleek looking lines to this one.

And a paddle steamer as well so going to look very smart.
