Managed now to progress this build some more with the completion of the first layer of planking. Considering the planks are not glued to the ribs at all but only glued at the stern and bow ends, I am very pleased to see the hull has retained the contour very well.... Have also sanded the outer hull ready for the second layer of planking to be added. The second layer shouldn't take as long as I now have a base to work from. First layer of planks used 1.5 x 6mm strips with the second layer being a little wider at 1.5 x 7mm strips. Will update again very soon....Cool Cool

Regards

Alan

Alan

That is a really beautiful piece of work.

This looks a very complicated kit to put together but you have done it so well.

Hope it continues to go well for you.
Happy Modelling

Almost seems a shame to cover that first planking, think it would look great just stained as it is. I suppose that with the second planking you will be using a darker wood?

Looking forward to the next instalments. Cool Cool

Thanks for the great positive comments guys, always appreciated.....Cool Cool

@Derek, the second planking layer is the same colour, only difference is the width of the planks. This is an OOB build with the lower hull being painted white and the upper hull and inside being varnished, perhaps a coating of Danish Oil, will see how it goes......Cool Cool

A lot of work done laying the second layer of planking and a short update of the progress. Most of the sanding process has been done, still some minor imperfections to put right, these will be revealed when then the outer hull is primed. Cool Cool. Next job is to now cover the keel....Cool Cool

More soon..
