I was under the impression (from the pictures) that we whould receive one of those hand-drill jobbies with the 'toolkit' - this turned out to be a mistake on my part.

Anyone know where in SA one can get one of the hand drills (sorry I can't remember the correct term for it now)

I have a Dremel with the drill stand and a chuck attachment so if I can source mirco drillbits for a reasonable price, could it be an option?

if its the same tool kit we get in the uk you shoud have the drill plus a drill bit drill looks like a handle with a twisted steam as for dremel a lot of modlers use them and a little tip cut the head of a pin and it will drill wood dress making ones are the best 0.8mm dia

The drill is called an Archimedes drill...I have one and had it for a number of years, damn handy drill to have too. Have you tried sourcing a drill and drill bits on google or E.Bay...shouldn't be too difficult to pick up one...hope this helps???

Thanks Gents!

The kit supplied in SA does not have the drill, even though the earlier pictures of the kit showed one.

Does one just cut a notch in the head of the dressmakers pin?

I'll use the dremel, even though I suspect the hand drill will give one more control.

just cut the head stright off with a pair of snips, the cutting with snips tapers the point and that cause it to drill ,eg >

Hi, if you haven't found the bits, I know of a place.

In cape town (montague gardens to be exact) there is a hobby shop called "Clowns Hobbies". They stock artesania Latina products, including a 5 drill bit set (0.5mm, 0.75mm, 1mm, 1.5mm, 2mm I think). They are just before the Trade Centre in Koeberg Road. Hope that helps =)

Go you know which exact sizes do we need for this model? (some places stock decimal bits (0.5mm etc) and then one also find some strange sizes
(60,80 etc))

Thanks Willie,

So far (up to issue 16 only and still waiting for issue 14) I've only used a 0.5mm, 1mm and a snipped sewing needle. (Shown below)
