The very fun metalwork is almost done. I have not botherered with the ramp or the battery pack yet. I am not sure if I want a moving ramp. Or I don't need one for what I going to do. And if I change my mind I don't think it's too late to add it. For my diorama I want the ramp touching the ground. Closing and opening is not that important. I am even considering removing parts of the metal that is blocking the way and extend the ramp and corridor into the rest of the interiour. I want the light though, so I will put the battery pack in later. But I am also going to add lights to the diorama so I need to add some sort of powersupply anyway and hide it. I might add the batterypack outside the ship and showcase to be more easily accessed from outside. I also want to have the structure finished so I can start assemble the plating. Once I have them temporarily fixed to the structure I am sure I will get a kick out of seeing that. Maybe I get new ideas.

I laid out hullplating on the top half of the metalframe. I wanted an idea of its size and intricacy. It is SO big. It is a fun jig-saw puzzle. I also getting ideas for the color on the underside of the ship. The top will be green (see an earlier post). The way they painted WW2 fighterplanes have been sitting in my head for along time. They weere often dark, brown, grey, blue on the top and pale blue on the bottom. So, maybe the ship should be yellow on its belly. But with random plating with other colors and patina, like the top. And yellow goes well with green. I need to think hard about that one. And sleep on it, and do a visualization. But I like it. It has jogged my imagination. Something good will come out of it.

I have a box full of sprues that belongs to the ship. So I thought I should try to reduce the number of them by assemble some of the "units", like recesses and the rectenna. These are the big sprues. There are also a smaller box with small sprues. So a quick layer of primer and sorting pieces that belong together into bags. Ripping open all bags when I got them, put them in boxes unsorted, and then much later sort them seems stupid. But this is an orgy in plastic parts, sprues, plating and more. I love all of them! And it's fun to just study the greeblies and parts and try to guess where they belong on the ship, and originally comes from. Some parts comes from tanks and battle ships. I know there a sites dedicated to identify these parts, but I am not that crazy yet. Maybe later. All pieces for the rectenna. The 5 big non-circular recesses. In pieces. Only the one in top left corner is fully assembled.

I bought one of those small boardgame gamepieces of the Millennium Falcon some time ago. I have never played the game, but I liked the quality and detailing of the model so it would be great to test paint schemes on it. After about 4 hours of painting (with a movie in background) I finished this little piece. There were a lot of adding shades of green, saturating, desaturating. And it didn't look like much until I slobbered the weathering onto it. Then it turned into something used and believable. I went with the rendering I have done previous because I like it. And I got some new ideas during the process, as I expected. But I am still a bit undecided about the bottom of the ship. I went with yellow on the model. I like it, but I am not sure. It will not be very visible since it it under the ship. Maybe more orange, warmer will be better. Orange with spots of yellow. Basically invert the yellow and orange plating in the image. Well it's easy to repaint. And there will be some marking on it. But the model is too small for me with my fat fingers to add them with a brush. One of the ideas I got... I should build a small showcase for this smaller model. That way I can try out the diorama around it in a small scale.

Nicely done. If thats what you've done with a miniature, think what the full size will be like. Regards Mark Regards Markwarren (Mark) Admin

Did some tweaking in Photoshop. Orange is much better than the yellow I think.

I have to agree that the orange is much better than the yellow, perhaps try a softer tone of orange and see how that comes out.

I think I will make another piece of hullplating for a paint test. This time to include both top and bottom.
Yes, the orange is probably too vibrant.

The 5 big recesses are finally done and primed. I used a rusty base instead of the grey or black. Will try to do some salt chipping as a base for them. Will be fun and intresting. Had some misshaps with the one to far right. Had to replace the thin tubing.

Interesting base colour, should work very well with your colour scheme. I look forward to the finished look. It's nice to see someone doing something completely different. Your doing a great job. Regards Mark Regards Markwarren (Mark) Admin

Thanks to you Mark and everybody for all the positive feedback and responds.
For me this build is a big trial and error and learning project. I want to try many new methods of painting, weathering and so on. That's why I also want to make a diorama. After years of looking at Youtube videos and reading blogs and wanting to try stuff for myself I finally have the means and the perfect project to do just that.

I live in Sweden, De Agostini doesn't have a reseller here so I could only order the full kit. Subscription wasn't an option for me.
I ordered it from the De Agostini website. Transfered the full sum via Paypal I think.
One thing though. At least this is what happened to me. The full kit was more expensive than doing the subscription. Not by much but still. There is some sort of reduction of the price for the first 4 issues. I never got that reduction.
And there are some gifts included in the subscription, the wallmount, a Han Solo figurine and some binders for all the magazines. I think. I never got those. But I don't care about the wallmount and the other gifts, I am doing a table with diorama instead and that was my plan all along. And me not having them does't affect my build in any way.
It's a great kit. I am very impressed by it. Pieces fit together perfectly. And the instructions are great.

The salt-chipping didn't work out that well. I am not good enough at it and also the amount of work and time I must spend to get it right on those small and many greeblies is something I am not willing to spend right now. So I airbrushed grey-black on them and then dusted brown and rusty red over them to give them a bit more contrast. It will do for now. And I also need to see them at their right places on a finished hull with all the plating. Top of the ship will be green and the bottom orange. And those colors will be reflected somehow in the recesses. Some splashes of color. The rectenna was fun to build. It is able to rotate and look up and down. Unless you glue the pieces. I am not sure what to continue with right now. I really need to have a look at the ramp and sort that out. I am not really interested in a moving ramp and would rather have the exteriour connect to the interiour of the ship.
