F105-B

Thanks everyone. The final cockpit build is the F105-B.There are no 1/47 F105-B kits so I bought a Monogram F105-D and a conversion set. Since this is a very old kit the level of detail is not that great so I replaced the cockpit with an AIRES resin cockpit. The Aires cockpit is OK.The detail is a bit soft and it was a challenger to paint because of that. The headrest was also missing so I used a razor saw to chop the headrest off the kit seat and mounted it on the resin seat.

Now all of the cockpits are done it is time to start assembling the fuselages and then painting the white and silver colors.

Time to start closing up the fuselage.I glued the cockpit in place and joined the fuselage havles.Next step is to sand the seams and attach the wings.

F84g

I also sealed up the f84g fuselage.Since this kit is prepainted sanding the seams presented a problem because the paint was sanded off.I am going to try using Bare Metal foil to cover up the areas that have been sanded and extend the foil to natural panel lines.I also sanded the paint off the tail and horizontal stabilizers since that needs to be sprayed white before applying the thunderbird decals.

It is very important with this prepainted kit to make sure you sand off the paint from any surfaces you need to glue together or the parts just wont stick together.

Great update as this one has great appeal to me but that pre-painted finish looks difficult to work with.

Looking forward to your further updates on this one.

Yes.I thought it would be an easy build, but the prepainting is making things harder.

OK all 9 planes now have their cockpits fitted and fuselage closed. The next step is to sand all of the seams and clean up for priming. The Tamiya F-16s are pretty good with smart engineering to avoid any seam issues. The monogram F105 kit is predictably awful since it is an old kit and will need quite a bit of work. The kits is an F105D and I had a conversion kit to turn it into a F105B, but the resin nosepiece in the conversion is not well molded at all so I am going to stick with it as a 105D.The difference is very small anyway.
