Hi..I've just completed issue 50. Now back in issue 46 it stated that it was only necessary to fill the planking gaps between frames 16 -21 - the visible area of the open gun deck..but now looking down through the bow and stern gun ports there is a clear visible gap between the deck and hull planks. I don't see how this gap can be filled in at a later date. Have i gone wrong somewhere? Please bear with me as this is my first attempt at ship building! I'm not sure how clear the attached photo is but any advice would be appreciated.

The magazine is correct. The planking on the inside is only necessary between frames 16 and 21 as this will be visible throug the gap cut in the main deck. All the other frames should have the dummy gun support beams fitted which are painted black on the inside and so, nothing on the deck is visible when you look through the gun ports.
Do have a picture of your main deck looking down into it?

It is difficult to see from the pics you've provided so can you post up a couple of photos looking straight down onto the forward and stern decks allowing me to see between the dummy gun supports and gun ports. Thanks for taking the time to reply. Looking directly through the gun ports all you can see are the black dummy gun supports but looking down at say a 45 degree angle you can see clear gaps between the deck and hull planking. I don't know if these gaps would be covered later by rigging..guns etc.. I could fix this by first removing the gun supports and then planking the gaps but I was just curious to know if I had clearly gone wrong somewhere. I've included some pics with more lighting but again I don't think they're very clear.

Thanks for providing the pics, appreciated.... Having had a look at your pics there is nothing there that tells me you have done anything wrong. Once you have all the decks, dummy cannons, gun ports lids in place etc then I think you'll find it very difficult to see anything inside those ports.... Regards Alan

Thanks for replying so promptly. Trying to dismantle parts of the ship to rectify possible problems could lead to more problems! So i think I'll take your advice and just leave it as it is. You've put my mind at rest..it's appreciated.

I agree, you don't really want to start pulling her apart at this stage but I also think the problem will resolve itself in a couple of ways.
Remember, the reason you can see what you do is via reflected light and, once you lay down the main deck, and the poop deck, where the planking will need to go right up to the frames in this case, that will cut down what you can see, considerably.
Also what I did was to really get in there with the matt black paint especially now, while you can. Just be careful not to get it on the inside frames of the gun ports as these will be painted red eventually.
Finally, of course, you will also fitting the gun port lids which will stop you being able to look down, inside the gun ports.
