Just found this...I WANT THIS.:) Replacing the McLaren M19 in 1973 was the formidable M23, which was used for four years until it was eventually replaced in 1977 by the M26. The M23 earned McLaren the Constructors' Championship in 1974 and well as two Drivers' Championships in 1974 (James Hunt) and 1976 (Emerson Fittipaldi). The M23 was also driven by MotoGP legend Mike Hailwood, who won third place at the 1974 South African Grand Prix. Specs and Features 34 years since its original release, Tamiya is proud to re-release the 1/20 scale plastic assembly model kit of the legendary McLaren M23. The sleek body has been realistically reproduced. Front and upper cowls can be removed after assembly to view the engine and cockpit area. The monocoque chassis, suspension and the Ford-Cosworth DFV 2,993cc V8 engine have been precisely reproduced. Newly designed Cartograf decals, tires, metal transfers, and skirt sheet included £36.48 for the kit then you can buy the P/E set for around £16.   There is no tobbacoo decals but Im sure they will happen if not already. My next model me thinks, now how do I get this in house??

A great release from Tamiya, I think Hunt was one of the gentlemen of F1; the missing sponsor decal set for this kit are available on ebay!

I did spot them on ebay, but from japan, I was looking for some in the uk.
Hunt was one of a kind though.

 Colin, you'll also need a set of Goodyear tyre decals, the kit for some reason does not contain these either

ah right Tom, didnt know that, I found the main decals on the net, need to see if they have the tyres on them, thanks. just found these, they look like they have the tyres decals on them.  Up for offer is this hard to get Studio 27 Full Sponsor decal set for Tamiya's 1/20 M23 Yarley McLaren kit. Build the car as raced 1976-1978 seasons driven by Villeneuve, Mass, Hunt, Piquet, Giacomelli.

I hadn't realised that in the M23 Hunt had six wins and eight poles in what was a four year old car!

Yeah, it was a good car, introduced in 1973 and had input from John Barnard, Peter Revson won 2 races in '73 (Great Britain and Canada), Denny Hulme won in Sweden.
1974 saw Fittlipadi win at Brazil, Belgium and Canada in the revised M23B while Denny Hulme won his only win in Argentina. The Silverstone race (which I have a re broadcast copy of) shows the rain hit and loads of cars falling of the track at the same spot on the circuit.
1975 saw the M23C with Fittipaldi win at Aregentina and Great Britain, and Jochen Mass win at Spain.
1976 M23D (which this model is based) saw Hunt win at Spain, France, Germany, Holland, Canada and USA , 1977 saw no wins.
A stunning car in all those era's.

thats the 1/12 version converted to Hunts '76 car, amazing, I could spend so much money on these things.

Specs and Features

Over the last few days I've been watching the 1973 race from Paul Ricard and a good showing from the M32 of Scheckter, leading most of the race with Peterson in the Lotus 72 followed by Stewart in the Tyrrell, Fittipaldi in the sister Lotus 72, then François Cevert and pulling up the rear Denis Hulme in the sister Mclaren, all so close it was anyones race, but 1hr 40mins of racing something was going to happen.
during the later stages of the race Scheckter was moving in on some back markers and on the last corner with Fittipaldi closing in made an error, her took the tight right hand apex far too wide, you can see his hands on the wheel move from left to right alsmost as if to avoid the back marker, fittipaldi got wind of it and run up the inside, no room for two cars there, scheckter closed the door..gamer over, the McLaren ran over the front wheel of Fittipaldi's Lotus and took to the air, the lotus had no choice but to stop on the start/finish straight but Scheckter carried on only to come into the pits a lap later.
If only he kept his head he would of had the win, a faster car more tan capible of keeping the Lotus and Tyrrell's at bay.
Dont mention Silverstone, Mclaren M23 or 2nd lap...opps BIG CRASH!!!

Starting to make my list of items need to build this Mclaren car, but for the love of god DONT tell the wife. Got a guy in Japan who can do the P/E for £11 includes p&p and the Decals from Japan again at £9 all in. There was another set of P/E available from Studio27 but a little pricey for me. The paints, well that's the easy part, Ive had my airbrush and compressor for a few years now and Hiroboy do coloured matched ready to use paints, the McLaren red is only £6, and of course the white, but more of that later. I found a company who can do the model with P&P for £33.46, cheapest Ive seen so far. I want to get in there as soon as I can as this is limited. Time now to start collecting photographic reference material
