After moving house and waiting so long to get all the parts to assemble the hull in one go, I couldn't contain myself any longer and finally got stuck in last weekend.

This is my first wooden ship build, so I'd really appreciate your comments.

a little too much glue, but nothing a bit of sanding can't sort out.

I know they say a bad workman always blames his tools, but the thread wouldn't be complete without the best acquisition to date: A Dremel 300, drill chuck and tilt-able drill press.

After a long wait issues 14, 17,18 & 19 finally made their way to me on Friday (18/03) As we're working this weekend there has not been much time to continue the build.

I decided to lay the first (lowest level) deck (orlop?) before finishing off the launch.

Was miffed when reading the instructions in issue 17 to pin the deck and searching the parts only to find no pins supplied :(

Decided to cut pieces of wire and use them for pins instead.



This is what the model looks like now after having been glued.







I'm going to paint the model, but am still undecided about the cutaway option.

your build looks very good StefanDV I must say the Dremel drill/Lathe look's a bit usefull. Keep sending in new pictures Stefan.

Colin, I've been through all my previous issues and none of them had pins.

I've noticed that Rib 15 may need a little more shaping than the others and I also may need to add a plank on both sides at the bottom - all the posts on the forum about it is giving me more confidence that I'll be able to sort it out without too many problems.

nice i am a little behind you only fitted bottom deck so far have all parts up to 22 and received a post office slip for next parts 23,24,25,26 not had time to pick it up yet,why does work get in the way of these things,i also do not have part 31 grrrrr,keep up the good work

Hi Stefan!

I wouldn't recommend using powertools for sanding, fairing is best done by hand the problem with power sanders is control you can take to much off in seconds. Take your time and keep checking, use a course grit paper first then fine paper, I use sanding belts from a belt sander as these last longer than normal sanding paper. I cut it into small pieces some is glue onto wood strips while other's are glued to round dowel.
