i take it from the total lack of response that no one on this forum knows if there is a rebate or not to accommodate the gun port coversBlink Blink Blink Blink Blink Blink Blink Blink

Have a look at the magazine and Tomicks build you'll find the gun ports are framed, as I'm sure you already know, the gun ports in the official build don't have a recess, for me and a few other have departed from the official build and changed the way the ports are done to give a recess.

How much of a rebate is down to you, but the thickness of the planking of 2mm is how I've measured it.

and also I did a quick search 'gun port recess' and came up with 3 pages.

I suppose it all depends if your going to have the gun port lids closed or open, if closed then you want the lids to be flush with the hull, which means you will have to have the lids 1mm thick, see what other reckon.

just a few things if you are going to have a rebate(rabbit)1,you decide if a rebate or not,2,as zep says are your gunports open or shut,3,what are the thickness of the ports? we don't know yet.?4. what thickness is your outer planking?
I used the thickness of my outer planking.08mm,to form the rebate.check my build to see if that suits.
Current builds: SotS, USS Consitution, San Felipe, D51 loco, HMS Surprise, RB7, Arab Dhow, Jotika HMS Victory

just gonna throw a little hand grenade into this discussion... it would appear on the real ship the rebate thickness vary and not just because of the wales. and on that note i will run off BigGrin
