The inner hull shell was then glued in place making sure that it was pushed right up against the strips as mentioned before.

I then added a lip of plastic sheet 0.5mm to the front edge giving the impression that the hull has been cut through. This lip also acts a guide for the ribs at each end to sit against.

This photo shows first rib fixed in place. This rib was pushed up against the inner hull to get the correct curve and as can be seen the lip provides an edge for it to butt up against.

This photo shows the second rib being fitted. Using my spacers I made in a previous post when fitting out the Junior Rates Mess and Galley ensured the ribs are fitted parallel to one another.

This photo shows the ribs being left slightly longer than required as it's easier to trim them to length when fitted.

To simulate that 'cut-through' impression of the compartment I glued smaller ribs butted to the lip I mentioned before. These were also cut to length after fitting.

This photo shows the half way stage.

I used a dremel to remove the excess from all of the ribs then sanded them flush. This photo shows the main ribs being sanded down.

Once the ribs were sanded flush I completed the look by sanding a bevelled edge to them so that they 'carry on theme' I applied to the Junior Rates Mess and also the Engine Room.

Good Morning from 'The Dockyard',

On this weeks post of my U230 U-boat build log I will be showing you how I made the scalloped and profiled saddle tank ends that sit either end of the Senior Rates Mess.

The technique I used to make them follows the same system I employed on the Junior Rates Mess / Galley in a previous post.

The overall look remains in keeping with the part-works supplied etched brass sheet for the Control Room and Engine Room.

The first job was to cut out a thin strip of 0.5mm plastic sheet and fix it to the ribs at end of the compartment. This strip represents a part of the inner pressure hull.

The attached photo shows the aft inner pressure hull strip being fixed in place.
