Hi all

I am thinking about building the 3 rooms in the stern gallery, I wont be able to put much detail in but i like the idea of seeing the checkered floor through the windows with a few led lights.

does anybody know if removing the section in the picture weaken the structure of the model?

im quite behind in my build due to moving house and birth of first kiddy.

Thanks Baz

The gallery internal structure is actually seated on top of the panel you intend to remove, suggest you look at the build progress beyond where you are at via my diary build and other builds around the forum.

hi baz,as you are a bit behind the rest of us,have you got the issues to date,if you have, get the stern gallery part out and see what has to be done to get a reasonable floor space, you may have to do a bit of kit bashing, and possibly make up some formers to strengthen the rear end,but as mr.t might say"your on your own" good luck,I can't see it being too difficult though.
Current builds: SotS, USS Consitution, San Felipe, D51 loco, HMS Surprise, RB7, Arab Dhow, Jotika HMS Victory

thanks Stefan, just waiting for him to start crawling then ill have to move the model out of reach LOL

i've done a sketch and because the wardroom is narrow due to rooms on each side i only have to remove a section in the middle and not the whole thing.

does anybody know if the wardroom also has a checkered floor? as i cant find any photos of it

Thanks Baz

Hi Baz

Contrary to what Karl has said, if you refer to Alan McGowan's book on the restoration of HMS Victory, there is a picture on Page 54 of the Wardroom with a black and white chequered canvas covering arranged in a diagonal pattern.

I found this a little surprising because on most ships you would expect the Captain to have this extra feature on the deck of the great cabin and the Admiral as well, if a flag ship. However, Victory was an exceptional 1st rate ship and I assume that the wardroom was fitted out accordingly.

Hi Baz

Just an extra thought, if you are trying to fit out the wardroom, you will need to include a panelled structure next to the stern windows which covers the rudder head and extends some way into the wardroom.

I would include the picture from McGowan but assume that DeAgostini would block it because of their peculiar policy re: references to printed material.

I stand corrected thanks mike,I was wrongly assuming that he refered to present day victory, and some other pics I had seen.
