Since the announcement that since the 1920s HMS Victory has not been in her authentic colours the modelling world has been quite divided. It feels like the weight of opinion is to stay with the colours that are familiar despite historical evidence that those colours could not have been replicated at the time. Experts in the field of historic paint have produced enough evidence to repaint the ship in colours that despite controversy are believed to be correct for the time of the Battle of Trafalgar

When I last visited Portsmouth they had begun the process of repainting Victory and I got some photos in good natural light.

Recently I have been working on establishing a colour match using available ready mixed paint for a little job I have picked up. To Be honest I have not been that hopeful that I would not have to mix paint but think I have it.

If you prefer to paint your HMS Victory in the new colours I would recommend the following.

Humbrol Satin enamel 174 signal read to replace Red Ochre

Revell enamel 69 Granite Grey to replace the Black

Revell matt Aqua Color 17 Africa Brown to replace the Yellow Ochre

If anybody has a different take on model paint match then I would love to hear it.

Question is, if the exact match is not shown on the model as its still wont be accurate and who's know's how things might change in the future., orginally yellow bands was thought, which changed to yellow ochre and now beige, and in fact the yellow ochre from Admiralty Paints was based on analysis of its previous restoration where as the yellow ochre on the ship was not the same shade. Its one you have to go with what you prefer the look of as some things they will never get to the bottom of.

A good example is with Vasa, the deadeyes were painted red on the 1/10 museum model because of traces of red coating on a couple of the deadeyes found in the real ship. This red coating turned out to be a corrosion product from nearby objects rather than paint.
