Your poor eyes with all that tiny PE Blink

Hi Dave thanks for looking in. the railings are a bit tricky. Think the rigging may be the bigger challange at this scale Blink

Weathering of the hull continues with the screws.

Following Tomiks helpful pic and thoughts on the screws I came up with giving them a wash in dark oak wood stainBigGrin the translucent brown gives a nice aged look and dulls down the shine of the brass.

Weathering the lower hull continues with some light grey chipping. most heavily at the bow which sees so much abrasive action at sea. I also did some chipping where I thought the ship may have rubbed against other boats docks etc.

Once dry A darker grey was also chipped, the idea in my mind is to try and show newer and older chips. The darker grey chipping was extended to the upper hull. Agin prominently at the bow but along the waterline and the hull sides generally.

With this done I was able to apply the rust effects. some of the larger chips above the waterline were given a touch of rust and some occasional rust along the hull sides. more heavy rust applied on the stern gallery with all that mesh, easy rusting points and at the bow again.

Finally several coats of rust was were applied where the anchors are rubbing up and down the hull

I am using Colour photos from the falklands war as a reference. The Camra flash does over exaggerate the colours a bit, I am happy with it though.

Thanks for looking Cool

The first sub-assembly parts have now been painted and given a wash. This allows assembly of the upper works to progress. I have added some of the ships boats while access is easy. there is still more painting such as the blast bags and etch such as railings and cranes to be added on some of these assemblies, this will be done on the built up model

In a carless moment I managed to break of my main mast top, it has disappeared into a black hole, so I have had to fabricate a new one.

The final set of sub assemblies are now complete and ready for priming.

Ships boats tops are fitted and painted and given a wash. the funnel sub assembly has been weathered and glued in. The blast bags have been pained white and the main mast given a first coat of black and white paint along with the funnel top. pom pom platforms are also done along with the secondary armourmant.

Looks fantastic, Such fine detail in this scale. Don't know how you do it.

The last remaining superstructure is now in place, a bit more work to do on the finish.

Anchors are in as is the stern jack pole.

The wood deck came with anchor chain, but this is massively over size for my liking, so I left on the moulded on anchor chain and used the etch chain to extend the the kit chain.

The kit comes with four aircraft, all the same, one of which can be sat on the catapult on C Turret. I have added the cradle and built up the aircraft. the idea of the aircraft being made as clear parts is cracking, but the thing feels very chunky and oversized for the model. I have chosen not to add it to the build.
I have However built one using the etch set so you can see what this would look like.

The process of installing railings and booms has now begun. I am finding my etch rolling tool very handy for the curved deck edges that need to be formed

Those of you with a keen eye may have spotted what looks like a hair on my camera lens, but you would be mistakenBigGrin LOL its actually rigging, yep thats right I am going to do some rigging on a 1:700 scale battleshipFlapper Yes I am bonkersLOL LOL

I am using this rubber thread that is0.01 of a mm thick, you can hardly see the dam stuff. you attache one end with a spot of glue and stretch it to the next point and another spot of CA at grabs instantly and trim it. looks fab I think

SOOOOOOOO close to finishing
