I do like your use of Danish oils on the wood Alan. Seen you use this before and it always looks so good.

Continued to build up the rails to create the slots for the oars. This was actually a lot trickier than it looks. The sections are cut from a single 4 x 8mm limewood strip, the shorter sections didn't really pose a problem as the simple use of steam enabled the slight curves to be applied to follow the profile of the rails. However the bow was a different matter, steam wouldn't cut it here so decided to soak these pieces in boiling water for around 20 mins, then clamped them to the inside of the hull and left to dry fully. Doing it this way ensured the profile for the bow was being maintained. Once happy then glued everything in place...

Then moved onto shaping the top of the transom and have now glued the capping in place, just leaving this to dry fully before trimming and shaping.....Cool Cool .. Until next time, happy modelling.....

Regards

Alan

Decided to take a little break from working on the hull and moved onto to making a start on some of the fixtures and fittings, namely the bow barrel containing the rope for the anchor and the anchor itself. Started by taking two circular discs, 26 and 30mm and joining them together with a 12mm walnut block, had to ensure everything was central otherwise would end up with a wonky barrel. Once dried, cut strips from 1 x 3mm limewood and started to plank around the discs, some of the strips were made into wedge shapes to take into account the narrowing of the barrel itself. Everything was left to dry then given a couple of coats of clear varnish. Next, I applied the two bindings using thin thread and coated them with diluted PVA. Covered the top of the barrel with a coil of rope, glued in position with PVA.

The anchor itself came in two parts and these metal casts required a fair amount of cleaning up, lots of cast lines. Glued the two parts together with superglue gel, gave everything a coat of metal primer and painted black. Once dry attached the anchor to the anchor rope and secured with a couple of bindings. Am pleased with how it all turned out…..Cool Cool

Until next time, happy modelling….

Regards

Alan
