Good evening from 'The Dockyard'. This weeks build log on my U230 U-boat will be looking at fitting the forward torpedo tube bulkhead. This bulkhead was an AMP from a German supplier and made of a very pliable, soft resin type plastic. Over the course of time it had become warped and there was a split near one of the holes for the torpedo tubes. First job was to remove the side bulkhead that was attached to one side and has moulded cables on it. From there i fixed a 0.5mm thick backing sheet to reduce the warp effect on the torpedo tube bulkhead. The attached photo shows the backing sheet clamped in place. I then fixed 2.5mm square strip to the backing sheet, top and bottom. These strips have two functions; one, they add strength and reduce the warp effect and two, act as guides when fixing the bulkhead to the inside of the U-boat. The next step was to add further strips running vertically. Again these serve a dual purpose in that they strengthen the bulkhead and act as a buffer for the torpedo tubes to butt up against. As the tubes themselves are off-set with the upper tubes having a wider spacing than the lower ones, I built the strips to run through the centre line of each upper and lower pair, forming a vee shape.
