I scratch built some parts for the torpedo compartment back in November 2015. One of the parts was the deck base that sits underneath the torpedo tubes.

I made it from 0.5mm plastic sheet. I took extra time to ensure it was a really accurate fit.

This photo shows a close up of the deck base and also a lower strip which acts as a supporting edge to fix the torpedo tube bulkhead too. There is also an upper supporting strip.

It was at this juncture that I seriously contemplated making all the tubes from scratch. Problem with that solution is the extra amount of time it would add to the build so I decided to add extra material to the original tubes and file to suit.

I started by gluing a 0.5mm strip around each end of the torpedo tubes. Although this didn't resolve the oval problem it did make the diameters large enough so that I could file and fit each tube to the bulkhead, albeit with a tiny gap each side where the narrow diameter is exposed.

The attached photo shows the strip fitted to the end of one of the tubes.

I could then refit the tube, making sure it sat square and drilled a marker using the vertical strip as a guide.

This photo shows the pin, which was cut from 1.5mm diameter brass tube, fitted to the end of the first tube.

I was happy with this solution as it significantly added strength and provided a positive location for the tube.

This photo shows how effective the brass pin has on the fit. No glue at this stage.
