Hello Alan,

Very nice work! I'm currently building L'Hermione myself. I'm at the stage where the gun ports are marked out, but I think I marked them too low. Could you maybe tell me how high the bottom of the ports are in relation with the lower deck measured from the inside?

greetings,

Mathias.

Nice work as usual, the bow looks quite tricky to plank being a tighter curve.

Had a dream to understand

He gave birth to poetry
But one day will cease to be

Hi Mathias, thanks for looking in and commenting, great to hear you building this one and hope you're enjoying it.... As for the bottom edge of the ports, I'm looking at 5.5mm from the deck, measuring from the inside.....Cool Cool .. Hope this helps..

Hi Nightwisher, thank for looking in and commenting, appreciated....Cool Cool .. Building this in accordance with the instructions does show the bow to be a little tricky and the method used leaves the bow with a clinker effect. This will be fine after the filling and sanding phase for a painted hull but not for a natural or stained finish... Cool Cool .. Other than that the build has been pretty straight forward so far....Cool Cool Cool

Alan

The next part of the build was to fit the garboard plank and start planking from there. The garboard plank will require a 90 degree twist to be applied both at the bow and the stern. The best way to apply the twist is to soak the plank first, fit temporarily and leave to dry in situ. Once dried then it can be glued in place leaving the planks overhanging all along the keel and at the stern and bow, I fitted a 2mm thick offcut at the stern to act as a guide.

Once the glue had dried another 4 rows of planks were added on each side. Again leaving the planks to overhang at the bow and stern and soaking the planks first to apply the necessary twists. No tapering is done on any of these rows and the stern planks need to be fanned out leaving gaps between the planks as stated within the instructions. When everything was dry the overhanging planks at the bow and stern were trimmed back, leaving an overhang of 2mm all round.

Next part soon, happy modelling...

Regards

Alan

That`s some serious plank bending going on there, especially those Garboard planks. Great result. Cool Cool

Time and plenty of patience seems the order.

Will look in again soon, keep up the good work.BigGrin

Very nice planking, indeed! Tnx for the reply concerning the port holes.

I'm at the stage where the planks need to be tapered at the bow and stern. Where did you start tapering them? It's not really clear from the build manual. I'm also wondering if you sanded the top of the planks to change the inside angle?
