Hello all,
I've had this on the 'shelf of doom' and in a half finished state for longer than I care to remember, so thought I'd get it finished and add it to my series of 1:72 aircraft builds here on MS. Sorry there are no construction photos, just didn't take any during the building of it, but I'll try to include some of my next build when I post it.
Tamiya 1:72 Focke-Wulf Fw190-A3
Built out of the box, only added detail was a replacement pitot tube made from a reshaped dressmakers pin and the gun barrels were hollowed out with a micro-drill. Model was brush painted - I wanted to try a bit of retro modelling technique - and varnished with a 2:1 mix of Winsor & Newton 'Galeria' Artist's Satin and Matt varnishes. I have yet to add the aerial cable, just waiting for some thin elastic to arrive in the post. Penny shot included for size reference.

Just goes to prove that with time and effort, you don't need a big scale kit for the end result to look museum standard, well done

@ Andy - Thanks for your comments Andy. Hoping to get back on the MP4/4 soon, as well as some of my other builds, just very busy at the moment, but I will update just as soon as I can?
@ Tom - Thanks for such a nice comment Tom always appreciated. That's all it is really, just time and effort and a little attention to detail. The scale doesn't really matter except that the smaller it is the harder it gets!!
@ Steve - Thanks Steve. It's not that difficult really, just needs a good optivisor and a steady hand then take it slowly? I always make a small indent on the end of the barrel first - making sure it is central - by using a sharp pin as a miniature centre punch to help locate the drill bit and then turn the drill slow and steady until I'm in to a depth of about a millimetre. The drill used on these barrels was a tiny 0.3mm but it is possible to get even smaller!!

@ Malc - I will try to get some more MP4/4 updates posted as soon as I can, just very busy at the moment with little modelling time, but it will happen sooner or later, thanks for your interest Malc.
@ Walter - Yeah, brush painted. Just fancied doing it the old way instead of having to constantly clean out the airbrush and it was actually quite liberating!! Provided the paint is thinned enough to allow it to disperse any brush marks, and is done in several thin coats to allow the detail to still show through, it can be almost as successful as airbrushing for finish I think. I also add a few drops of Vallejo 'Airbrush Flow Improver' to the paint mix which I find helps?
