The new carrier is expected to be tracked by a Russian spy operation involving submarines, ships and reconnaissance aircraft when it sets sail. A naval source said - The Russians would want to get as much information about the ship as possible. Its acoustic signature, radar and communications emissions, all the things they would need to track it or target it at a later date. RAF Typhoon's and Merlin anti–submarine helicopters are on stand–by to intercept Russian spy planes and submarines if they are nearby., getting intelligence on a new warship is a “real prize”, they will probably go at it with everything they have got.”
The whole process to leave Rosyth could take more than 10 hours. After waiting until high tide to leave the naval dockyard (17:30) the carrier must then wait for the tide to lower to pass under the Firth's famous bridges. The following six weeks will be spent in the North Sea and Moray Firth proving systems – she will finally sail into her home port of Portsmouth sometime in the autumn where a new jetty awaits her arrival: https://www.gov.uk/gover...giant-aircraft-carriers
Flight trials will begin off the eastern seaboard of the United States in October 2018.

Beat me to it lol. Been monitoring all weekend waiting for it to go. Knew it was this weekend but dragged over. With 6ft to spare it's gonna be very tight. Chris On the bench 1/350 Revell Tirpitz Platinum Edition (Pontos PE and Wooden deck) plus extra Eduard PE set and extra MK1 door sets.

I bet that Hornby's current financial status in being bid on by an asset managenment company has put hold on further development of their a HMS Queen Elizabeth kit and might explain why there has been some serious price cutting for many of their large scale kits. Airfix has struggled for a few years now and is likely to be the first to be sold off if an asset management company get involved.

Airfix are good at producing kits for the poker money end of the market so would be a real shame if they disappear and much harder for kids to get into the affordable end of the hobby. its noticeable on their website that they have reduce the range of products hugely, it does feel like a wind down despite announcing products for 2018 “Whenever you find yourself on the side of the majority, it is time to pause and reflect.” -Mark Twain

So technically its out of date before it even set sail! Not fully sea worthy till 2020 and then will need up dating to still make it out of date!

My Boss's nephew is currently in America training on the F35. He got his wings a year ago at Valley, he was the only navy pilot to qualify for the F35 in the bunch that were there. Once he's done there he's coming back in a F35 then being based at RAF Marham until Lizzie is ready for them.
