I decided to get my mp4/4 out and have found that the nose has yellowed, possibly from exposure to the sun. Has anyone else had this? https://flic.kr/p/WyqdhVSenna mclaren mp4/4 build complete mp4/4 build http://forum.model-space...spx?g=posts&t=12029

I have heard of yellowing models on other forums, its normally due to the varnish that is used, with the varnish itself actually yellowing.

It's generally not a good idea to display any model in direct sunlight. You say "I decided to get my mp4/4 out" so im guessing that sunlight is not the problem here? Steve

Steve When i say get it out i have my mp4/23 which i alternate with as i have 1 display case. So i was getting out the mp4/4 for its stint in the display case. But i didn't notice it when i put it away last time but that's not to say that it wasn't like it. Is there anything i can do about it? Hi Steve Looks like a respray job as once the paint/plastic has discolored its hard to get back, think of all those white double glazing frames that go yellow and grey overtime due to burn from the elements and sunlight, you could use the Tamiya rattle can TS-26 or Zero paints do an equivalent, link below: https://www.emodels.co.u...6-pure-white-85026.html
http://www.hiroboy.com/P...60ml--product--940.html
If you use the zero paints then you will need there diamond coat take a look at my cobra build to see the deep shine achievable: http://www.hiroboy.com/D...ml--product--10301.html
http://forum.model-space...spx?g=posts&t=22011
The front decals are still available at autograph: https://shop.autographmo...en-MP4-4-1-8-front-wing
Before you do anything double check that its only the front wing that needs a respray and do a test piece to see if the paint matches the rest of the body it may be a case of a complete respray of all the body parts to get a good colour match. If a complete respray is needed all the decals are still available at Autograph but the cost of the decals and the respray will be expensive. As its just the front wing that appears to have suffered i may try a respray of just the front wing. Think I'll get the tamiya paint. Regarding the decals i bought the nose decals last time and only used the marlboro one so i still have the rest. Do you think it'll be possible to remove the marlboro one from my wing and reuse it to save me buying a new set of decals? Would i have to rub it down before i paint? If so what grade of paper should i use? Also would i have to remove the end plates? Senna mclaren mp4/4 build complete mp4/4 build http://forum.model-space...spx?g=posts&t=12029

You will need to take the shine and the decals off the body and I dont think you will save any, use a fine wet and dry or micromesh to do this. Disassemble as much as you can to make the respray as easy as possible. After you get a good surface undercoat with your prefered brand and then respray. If you have limited spraying experience I would not attempt doing this but get someone who has the experience to do it for you. To get a good finish a lot of rubbing down of the undercoat will be needed. Current builds:-C57,Zero, Lamborghini Countach, Caldercraft HMS Agamemnon,Robi,R2-D2, MFH Cobra .

I thought as much about the decals, don't know why i posted about it tbh! I have very limited painting experience like you say but the way i look at it i have little to lose as it looks terrible now, worse then it does in the pic! And if i do make a complete balls of it then there is the option of buying another pack 1 for the front wing and nose. If i use the tamiya paint will i need a lacquer on top and if so what is the best one to get? Senna mclaren mp4/4 build complete mp4/4 build http://forum.model-space...spx?g=posts&t=12029

Any good clear coat should do but again do test pieces to see if it matches the rest of the bodywork Current builds:-C57,Zero, Lamborghini Countach, Caldercraft HMS Agamemnon,Robi,R2-D2, MFH Cobra .

Tamiya TS-26 is the closest you will get to being the correct colour hopefully it will colour match the rest of the bodywork. Current builds:-C57,Zero, Lamborghini Countach, Caldercraft HMS Agamemnon,Robi,R2-D2, MFH Cobra .

Finally got round to getting the parts painted and have to say I'm quite impressed with my first attempt at painting. https://flic.kr/p/WXPzHN
As i said the left end plate didn't need doing so still has the decals on although i did have to paint the upper edge but masked the rest of it out. Senna mclaren mp4/4 build complete mp4/4 build http://forum.model-space...spx?g=posts&t=12029
