I have been thinking about this topic for some time.

The models in these threads are all vehicles of one type or another - cars, boats, aircraft, and real spacecraft.

Why not step out of the box for a minute?

There is already a 1:2 scale R2-D2, and there are many other scales of the droid you are looking for, so how about this?

A 1:1 scale model of the E-11 Stormtrooper blaster!

Before I just get replies of "Limited appeal" or "Niche Market", please hear me out.

Now with the fact that DeAgostini have already shown they can get licences from LFL/Disney, this should be a fairly easy licence. And with the care that is obvious in the R2 and E-type builds, this can easily be the best, most accurate hero blaster on the market. Lights and sound would also be of benefit.

So not only do you have the general SW market in the bag, with this subject you should easily be able to sell to a large chunk of the 501st Legion as well.

This is why I would not suggest Star Trek Phasers, as the market would be that much smaller, but a replica that got the backing of the 501st has the chance to be huge. Maybe even put in a questionnaire in the first issue to find out if there is the market for other replicas of this type - Boba Fett's blaster rifle springs to mind.

Idea's for any Partwork are market researched for viability. Its not just a case of choosing an subject and running with it, many months of work goes into a subject before it get's anywhere near development let alone a market test and many fall by the way side along the way.

OK, so that was the knee-jerk reaction I wanted to avoid.

Is this section of the forum for serious ideas - in which case please stop taking umbrage and maybe for a while assume we all know that there is not a huge chance of anything posted here actually getting to market, and if it does, it won't be quick.

Or is it for wishlisting, in which case, what does it matter?

OK, so I missed a smiley, shoot me! Flapper Now, anyone actually want to come up with something constructive? Or shall we just delete the thread? BigGrin

There is no chance of any subject becoming a Partwork unless it appeals to the masses and can turn a profit from the huge investement., which has to be viable in terms of license cost, development/production costs and if a multi or single market etc etc.

The "suggest new models" section is just that, its an area of the forum where new Partwork suggestions can be made., There is no guarantee of any wish being granted other than every suggestion is considered and being aware that every Partwork has been spawned from an idea, ,its just a case of the idea making the grade in temrs of financial sense.

Tomick.

I am big enough and ugly enough to know all that [can't speak for anyone else, although I believe that most, if not all, of us are the same.]

I know that anything said here is subject to people saying "Can't make money out of it." because, let's face it, DeAgostini wouldn't have lasted this long if they had just used the company to make whatever their own favourite ideas were at the time. They won't last long now if they were to just pluck random ideas of a forum. I understand that real world cars, aircraft, and military subjects are going to out-perform anything in the SF catalogue. I WANT the company to make money, if it thives, there's more chance of something I am interested in coming out, things like TB2, R2, The X-wing.

You yourself may very well have no interest personally in this sort of suggestion. But this would certainly be a multi-market project.

1:1 scale = prop and replica collectors due to chance to own a replica of a 'hero' version of one of the most iconic weapons in SF.

SF = every SF fan out there recognises this blaster as the one the stormtroopers use. Star Wars fans even more so.

501st Legion. THE BIGGEST STAR WARS COSTUMING GROUP WORLDWIDE! Lots of the threads in their forum are people working on the trooper costumes asking about the quality and availability of this very item.

So, please, if all you can do is talk about suggestions in general, and not on the points I have specifically raised, step away from the topic.

If we are not talking specifically about a suggestion, especially with me giving a suggestion on who to talk to for more information on the viability of a suggestion, then we might as well have threads that just contain the suggestion in the title and nothing more.

I totally agree that such a collection would likely be a big hit with ScFi fan's. But as a build or collect a weapon partwork its unlikely., that's not to say we cannot envisage or dream of such or suggest the idea.

Simple reason being that no Partwork compay would want to be associated with producing replica weapons (fictional or otherwise), in a similar manner that the "Enola Gay" B-29 won't be realised as a partwork., its market research which determines this even though there are plenty of weapons kits and the Enola Gay B-29 out there.

For anyone out there losing hope that their favorite model will never appear as a partwork then take a look at the suggestions made so far on this forum (suggest new models section).

All the following were requested and are now all successful partworks (except for the Warrior) - and most are by DeagostiniBigGrin

1/200 Aircraft Carrier (Akagi)
HMS Warrior (OK.. so not a partwork)
ORP Blyscawica
San Felipe
Black Pearl
Endeavour
Royal Sovereign (SOTS)
Santa Anna
Ju 87 Stuka
Soleil Royale
HMS Victory cross section
E type Jag

Although still no Marie Celeste ....hint hint Laugh

Actually ORP Blyscawica is running as a partwork in Poland. It's pretty damn nifty too containing an entire dock as well.

Yep... I'm collecting (not building yet) ORP Blyskawica thanks to my parents' help (they live in Poland and stockpile the packs for me to pick up when I'm visiting). It's a pretty nice kit, developed by Occre (I think) specially for Hachette.

Happy building :-)
