Confused Confused Mad Angry Angry Sad

OK that is that out of the way, now I was really not happy because all the photo's I took to record my build progress over issues 22-25 had become corrupted on the SD card, when I tried to upload them. All save one, the last one!!!

But then I go onto photobucket and discover their free hosting service is no longer free, and if I want to continue displaying any images here it is going to cost a minimum of $40 a month (about £35)!! for 3rd party hosting capability.

Well sorry but I don't have and cannot justify that amount. I am trying new sites, so please bear with me.
In the meantime hopefully, I can upload my surviving photo from issues 22 to 25.

This is from imgbb, and hopefully it will work. If not my build diary is going to be pretty boring from now on in, unless anyone knows of a pic/photo hosting/3rd party hosting site that costs nothing to use
If you build it he will come

A lot of people have been affected, you can post any picture using the direct method. Press the attach button and browse to the photos and upload. You'll never loose them again.
Keep up the good work.

Have now started to use imgbb, which is linked in with Facebook, so hoping I am going to be OK, we shall see.
Well fun and games with issues 26 to 29, but the most exciting thing was the projector parts are in these issues, and can be tested BigGrin BigGrin

OK first off issue 26

This involved building up the right leg wheel, the locating lugs required are on the smooth side and it is a straight forward fit.

I used the smaller silver screws, the same ones as I had used on fitting the white leg cover

In place

The lower bearing is a lovely fit, doesn't matter what way round it goes.

Then its just a case of putting the wheel on and the bolt, ensuring screw side is down.

And that's all there is to issue 26, next issue 27, and the smile hit my face as its the control board for the projector

The smile faded a little as I was peeling off the protective tape, it was a little sticky and initially I was worried I had broken the fragile ribbon cable, but the pfft I heard was the tape breaking free BigGrin. It is probably best to grip the edge of the screen as you remove the tape

So after removing film, you just slide it into place in the holder making sure it's the right way up

Now it is not so clear in the instructions, but the cct board has two sets of holes, one set for the screws and one for the locating lugs of the holder assembly, hopefully the image below makes that clear, don;t go tightening the screws without locating the board first.

Once screwed in it gives a nice fit. All ready for the plug.

That's issue 27 done, and onwards to issue 28 which sees the wheel fixed in place.

This issue also gave us a load more screw, so the pill box is getting more full now.

First off the instructions just repeated the last part of issue 26, so the first thing to do was put on the larger bearing, again excellent quality and a good fit.

The plate went over the top of this, again locating lugs so you can't go wrong, I really cannot stress the simplicity of this.

Again I used the same screws as in issue 26, it seemed right, and looked right, I wasn't about to get a ruler and measure them.

Issue 28 finished, and looking wheelie great BigGrin

Now onto a bit of eagerly anticipated building, issue 29

3 lenses a light source and the projector holder itself, but I was about to have a few problems, and most was down to this little beggar

The smallest lens - place convex side down into the tube and pushe down until it hits mounting plates (or words to that effect) say instructions, so I carefully get it in place, and flip, drop. It happened 6 or 7 times until finally I came to the conclusion I was going to need a spot of glue or something, as either the holder was a fraction of a mm too big, or the lens too small. so applying the smallest sliver of glue possible, I tried again, this time the lens stayed in place. Then came the acid test (which on ALL other occasions failed - as soon as I moved the holder the lens dropped out!! Cursing ) I moved the holder and the lens stayed in place, it was even the right way around. So little tip get some liquid glue and put a bit on the inside of the holder lugs.

Next on the list was the large lens, now as far as I can see it doesn't tell you this, but there is a notch in the lens, and looking at the instruction images, this needs to be at the bottom.

There are also 'lugs' on the lenses, and judging again by the photo's in the instructions, these need to be at the top

The LED light source is next and that goes in the middle of the 3 grooves at the back.

By the time I had clipped the lid on, it can only go one way thankfully, I was just itching to try it.

With the lens barrel in place (and that smallest lens still staying put. I was ready to test.

So I hooked up my test board, pressed S2 and....

YES!!! We have Luke, flickering and moving like a Gif image. So to test for Leia S2 and S1 pressed and.....

Luke????
OK since this have read through the message board and found that it wont show Leia unless I short out some pins.

Did it and YES IT WORKS!! Unfortunately I can't get a picture of it yet, but will try when I have some help to hold the projector at the right angle, short the wires while holding down S2 all at the same time.

Very happy man though and can't wait for issues 30 to 33 as this will be a 1/3 of the way through the build.

Coming along nicely. Regarding fitting the lens into the tube - I found mine actually 'clicked' into place and held with no problems.

A word of warning though, do not use super glue near the lens as the fumes from the glue will cloud the lens.

Thanks everyone, been looking at the official build, to look at what is coming, and I might have to change my "been quite easy" comment, as it is looking pretty complicated.

Would be interesting to hear if anyone else has the same issue as me. I used Tamiya Liquid glue, and it seems fine.

No glue was needed with any of the lenses on mine. It just popped in, it was quite a tight fit though

Mine was the complete opposite hence the need for glue, it was a really loose fit Laugh

Received issues 30 - 33 just before the Bank Holiday, so was happy I had a bit of time to build it. That was a relief as I needed it, as build issue 30 was quite a lot to do.

Sorry about quality of photo's.

So the only parts were a motor and some tie wraps. But the amount of work was a lot more.

Not too clear, but the motor can only be fitted one way - flat on flat.

It's a nice snug fit, and the plug should be in line with the leg. I used the longer silver screws to secure it.

Motor done its time to fit the cables, and this is where I made an error.

It wasn't not getting the cable the right length past the motor, look closely and the other cable isn't right up against the motor itself, which meant when I was fitting the ankle block over the wires it wouldn't go on. Meaning I had to take it all apart again Cursing
For all those looking at this prior to building make sure the cable is as straight down as possible as in image 14 of the build guide.
Then tie wrap them

Next it's the fitting of the sensor and leg casing, all in issue 30 still. This is pretty fiddly, as you have to get the sensor just so for it to 'click' into place.

So after doing all that you have to thread the cables through the leg hole, without the sensor popping out, and making sure no cables get trapped, whilst at the same time lining up the holes Crying

So whilst holding the top with one hand ensuring sensor was ok, I slid up the bottom bit to hold it together

The I put in a black screw at the top on either side to hold it all together before putting the rest of the screws in.

I then added the ankle bit on one side

At this point I still thought there were no issues, so I carried on,

These needed to be put together and then once together needed to go on the other side.

It was at this point I realised I would have to take it all off and correct the lie of the cable

That done, much better

And FINALLY that was the end of issue 30, next up issue 31

Compared to issue 30 this was a breeze.

Fit the pipe holders next, which were a little loose but not too bad.

Before fitting the top cover of the foot, I made sure the sensor cable was away from the wheel and on the correct side.

So ends issue 31

Onwards to issue 32

This would be a test to see if I got the measurement right for the sensor, as that is all you basically had to do.

FINGERS CROSSED

GET IN!!BigGrin

Onto issue 33 at last

fitting the foot

Also in issue 33 we had the bottom part of the dome, again we have done enough of this part of the building, so I will just show finished product BigGrin

So that is this lot done, a challenging, and a very good amount of building in these issues, just think we have to do it all again for the next leg, at least now, we can learn from mistakes.

Looking Great. I had the same problem with the first lens dropping it into the tube and it kept landing the wrong way round lol. When I finally got it into position I had to walk away for 5 minutes. Laugh
