I first became aware of the DeAgostini 1/8th scale E-Type Jaguar through an email bulletin from Scale Auto Magazine. I was pretty much hooked from the moment I saw the Jag. I started building plastic scale model aircraft in 1955 when I was 5 years old. I really never stopped modeling. During my college years, chasing girls became more important. I built perhaps only 1 kit per year. I resumed regular building in the mid 1970s. I switched from aircraft models to automotive subjects in the mid 1980s. I joined the Houston Automotive Scale Modelers Society (HAMS) in the early 1990s. I was very active with model car contests here in Southeast Texas until a few years ago. My builds are not as competitive as they once were. I mainly build clean, nice shelf models in place of contest winners. With my time in the hobby, I would think I would be a more skilled builder than I am at present. I am not sure how you folks assign a skill level to each other. I consider myself a decent, middle of the road scale modeler. I enjoy recreating automobiles in miniature. I just started a Revell (Monogram) 1/8 scale 1965 Chevrolet Corvette. It will be a companion piece for the 1/8th Scale E-Type.

I have received issues 1-8. I have really enjoyed the process. I find the YouTube E-Type build videos very helpful. The work has been very, very easy with the exception of the hand laced wire wheels for the spare tire. The inner spokes were not bad at all. The month 2 outer spokes were much more of a challenge, but I am very pleased with the results. The wheel with tire (U.S. spelling) looks fantastic. I think the next 4 wheels will be easier now that I have completed one. I have done a small amount of added detail painting, but really like the fact that the model's exterior is pre-painted and the interior parts are already in proper color. I won't be worrying about paint/primer compatibility or our high humidity most of the year. I can focus on enjoying the build.

I hope I am amble to post photos of the build as it progresses. The photos are on my cell phone and I am typing this on my laptop. I will need to transfer images from one to the other if it is possible to share photos on this site. I wish everyone happy modeling.

Welcome to the forum Steve, its great to have you aboard and look forward to hopefully seeing some of your work. If you need help or advice then this forum is the place to come, full of well versed modellers who are only too willing to step in and assist when needed. As for pics, you may find this post helpful, it gives some very useful advice on how to upload pics so they are visible on your posts. I would recommend you use the forum's own upload facility rather than rely on any photo sharing sites.....

I hope you will consider posting a build diary on the forum. FYI there is a wheel building tutorial no the forum.Here is a quote from that tutorial and a link to it ;

The wheel-building method used to build the spare wheel in issues 4 and 5 is a slightly simplified version of the actual spoking pattern used by Jaguar on the actual E-type.

This was done in order to guarantee that first-time builders can get excellent results by using a ‘2-spoke cross-over’ pattern rather than a 3-spoke cross-over which is more difficult to achieve.

The visual differences in the finished wheels is almost imperceptible, but confident modellers who want added authenticity may wish to try the more complex 3-spoke spoking arrangement as described in the wheel build tutorial., (the official build is 3-spoke).
