Hi Ian, Thank you for looking in and for the inspiration. Assembled the wine rack this past weekend. Thanks to Dennis for his article on soldering – no more fights with the superglue. I clamped a square to the bench to keep everything aligned, applied flux and then soldered the joints. Once cooled I cleaned up the edge with a file. I followed the instructions here and decided not to paint the brass bits. Kind regards, Garth Garth attached the following image(s): "Measure twice, cut once!!!" Finished!!! HMS Victory, Current build: Black Pearl. On hold: Bismarck, Golden Hind, Flying Scotsman, Victory Cross Section, SOTS, Tiger 1. Wish list: USS Constitution.

Hi All, Back on the Pearl again after a busy month at hte office. Primed the bottles, barrels and containers. I used spray can primer here. Metal primer for the cast bits and plastic primer for the resin pieces. A gift to myself; a bought a cheap compressor & airbrush. The compressor is designed specifically for airbrushing, it has a three pole switch, off, on constantly or on only when air is consumed. They are Chinese copies, but are about 1/5th the price. I have been reading up on making your own washes and it seems quite easy. They are basically artists inks diluted in a solution consisting of various ratios of distilled water, matt medium, dish washing liquid and Rinse Aid. Once the paint has dried I either brushed on the wash, or dunked the parts into it and wiped off the excess. Trial #01, About 25ml distilled water, 10 drops black ink, 10 drops matt medium – barely covered, had to add another 10 drops of ink. Trail # 02, 25ml Rinse Aid, 10 drops black ink – worked really well but dried gloss. My next attempt will be using the matt medium as a base. I will keep updating my findings until I get it right – hopefully. Kind regards, Garth Garth attached the following image(s): "Measure twice, cut once!!!" Finished!!! HMS Victory, Current build: Black Pearl. On hold: Bismarck, Golden Hind, Flying Scotsman, Victory Cross Section, SOTS, Tiger 1. Wish list: USS Constitution.
