Just a quick update to show the use of the new airbrush. It's nice to use for the victory paints but I must admit, I couldn't be bothered to use it for the primer where I would have the thin it down and then clean everything out, so I bought a spay can for cars.
Takes a little getting used to but feels good. Air cans get used up pretty quick though so a small compressor may be on the list for my birthday.
Nearing the point where I will be painting soon so last bits to the hull.
IMPORTANT NOTE
To those following on behind, make sure you read the Official Build Diary as you go. This includes error corrections for the instructions. Having just painted the wriggles black, I now realise they will all be painted yellow once they are fixed to the gun ports, so that was a wast of time.

Looking good John. The cans of paint can be expensive as well. A small compressor seems like a good idea. Had a quick look on line and they start at about £25 up to whatever you want to pay. At the end of the day you only get what you pay for. Alan Today is the tomorrow you wished for yesterday!

Nice work John. I use rattle cans on the metal and brass bits as they seem to have something in them that stick better to the parts than normal paint. What I also tend to do is decant some of the rattle can paint into the airbrush for finer areas.. Looks great though pal. Hi John. looking Very good. I tend to use spray can primers and air brush on other bits in my modelling. Ian  Current builds.Hachettes build the bismark,HMS Victory, HMS Hood.

the wriggles don`t necessarily have to be yellow. It depends on where your painted stripes run - in fact most of mine are black.Greetings,

Many thanks guys. My good lady has gone back to the UK for a few weeks so progress should improve a little, if the sun bed doesn't call.
The compressor is very close now. God knows how much I have spent on tools for this kit but none of it is regretted.
Decanting is a good idea Chris, I will do that in future.

As this update is starting to get long now, I thought I would post it in 2 parts. I am almost up to Issue 80 when I planned to take a bit of a break for the rest of the Summer. The second half will be in a couple of weeks hopefully.
So at last, it’s time to paint the hull and it's been a long time coming, I must say.
Rubbed down, filled in, rubbed down, filled again and rubbed down again with the lightest of glass papers. Also I had to repair the wales around the bow as well as they weren't sitting right. It's odd how you acquire the confidence to repair areas now, without even thinking twice. I remember in the early days, if something broke or went wrong, I was miserable for days.
Just picked up my new compressor as well. It's much bigger than I need but it was available in the local hardware shop and it would have ended up the same price once you include shipping costs to Greece.
Also now into chainwale production and again, working with wire is not much fun and your fingers hurt like hell at the end of it plus, you can see how many there is to do! I never managed to get the knack of this and must have broken at least a third of them as I tried to tighten the wire around. Also had to open out just about every slot as it was too thick. And on top of that, the 5mm plank was useless as it kept breaking so cut a notch in a spare rib frame in the end, which was stronger. That worked perfectly. By the time I got to the last 5 or 6 I had broken while fixing and needed redoing, needless to say these were just right.
So to the painting then....Really pleased with my new air brush although getting the jet right takes a little getting used to and, since it goes in so thin, I can rub down with nearly worn out glass paper and keep building up the coats. Results look really good.

Now ready for the black. Also a view of my new cookbook stand my wife bought me for my birthday. Just perfect for the folders.
It was with some trepidation that the masking tape came off today! Peeked at the first few centimetres and all looked good. Lots of touching up to do and a few copper tiles to replace but really pleased so far. Once the gun ports have been painted and have their lids, it should look a whole lot better. Had a small diversion when I realised I had used 1x5mm stripes for the lower wales instead of 2x5mm but put an extra layer on and repainted, so all good again.
And here we are up-to-date. I just a few more bits to take me to issue 80, 2/3 thirds through now and a bit of a break for the summer, methinks.
On to the accessories and the Lego bricks come in useful again.

Hi John, Lovely update. Well done on a superb paint job. A thought on the brass wire - a little late I know. I also had a problem with it being very springy. Annealing removes the internal tension and makes it much more malleable. I past mine through a candle flame until it changed colour.
