the carbon tub for the driver compartment was also a bit of a head ache. it is not woven carbon but rather a rough surface. I had some carbon paper flying around at home (from my rc model plane days). I "molded" this into the cockpit with clear lacquer. it took about 10 layers of this stuff proved to be very porous. monzaandre attached the following image(s):

Somehow I missed the start of your diary Andre, but some fabulous improvements going on here, like your interpretation of the rough surface in the cockpit tub amongst other details - very well done!
I'm building an MP4/4 myself in the much smaller 1:20 scale with the 'Top Studio' Superdetail set. You can find it here if you're interested?:

Many thanks for all the kind encouragement.
Kev, shall follow your build. thanks a lot for the link mate.
Next up I didnt quite like the engine mounting plates. the molded in nuts are ok but they dont really represent the studs with nuts as per the original. So I drilled out all the dummy screws and fabricated the studs/nuts as per the next picture

These are "ugly" phillips heads cut off and then just added a m1 nut.... monzaandre attached the following image(s):

Now started to work on the engine. I am not building this in the suggested sequence and again, I wont show too many pictures of the standard steps but rather share the small mods and how the will then look like installed. I did find that the fuel injector plastic parts had some rather strange impressions in the imposed nuts so I added some stainless steel hex nuts. they are a touch too small but I think they will still look better than just the plane plastic parts. some repainting will also be needed. monzaandre attached the following image(s):

while doing some engine assembly I found that the heat exchange was very nicely finished but had rather unsightly gaps after gluing the parts. I was playing with my kids today and suddenly I had an idea.... i wanted to try and create alu welding pattern with Plasticine ..... here is how this turned out .... monzaandre attached the following image(s):

Lets hope the plasticine will harden with the paint and remain sticky enough monzaandre attached the following image(s):
