Ahoy mi fellow mateys
Well as Issue 50 dropped on my doormat over the weekend, I thought I would see how we are all getting along!
Personally I am just about to finish the planking (Issue 38)But I have skipped a few steps, ie I have yet to finish cutting all the gunports out!, my measuring is great but after reading a few comments on here I thought I would hold back until the decks start going in place.
I Intend coppering the bottom of my build so putting guns in place then having to turn her tits up again doesnt seem right, so I will have to wait until issue 58!! to sort that out when prsonally I would have liked to know about all at Issue 40, If we have order to from DeAgo, how many weeks will that take for them to arrive, they are not the fastest of shippers!!
I will continue with my build diary (note to self take pictures!) after the planking is complete, cant see the point of putting pictures on of 3 more planks added!!!
My Cross section is begining to take shape will ad photos as well! and my other build has gone back in the box for later.
Overall I am happy with the quality of materials and throughly enjoying the build and this forum, which I think is a great idea as we are all building the same, all be it at different stages.
So half way there with the issues, 1/4 way there with the build! I just hope that this forum will continue after the postman drops the last part off, it would be a shame not to.
Till the next post then, and on with the Dot Spotting (Its what I watch while Im building)!!! Happy Building, Russ On the workbench: My Victory Build Diary - Victory Cross Section Build Diary - Black Pearl Build DiaryUnder the Bench: Millenium Falcon, Black Pearl x 2, Coral Victory Cross Section, De Lorean

Keep up the good work all and happy building. Jimmy L.

Tomick wrote:12 months in seems to have flown by, here's to the next 12 and final leg agree it seems like a few months, strange as planking the hull seem to take decades “Whenever you find yourself on the side of the majority, it is time to pause and reflect.” -Mark Twain

Tell me about it i thought planking took a year on its own and i was stuck in a time loop well judging by all the comments and picks over the last year even the negative ones lol, it looks as though the next year will be just as eventfull and i hope we all carry on so we can have a navy bigger than our present one, but thats not to difficult even swithzerland have a bigger navy and thats landlocked . Hope to see you all for the next year and keep the pics comming everyone is doing great with there builds and well done to all. . Builds in progress: HMS Victory.HMS Surprise. Completed builds: Revell London Bus 1/24. Builds to do:Sovereign of the seas, Hms Albion.

Hi Yes, year gone. I've got my hull planked, gun ports cutted out, fitting 10 guns now so pretty much on schedule. Right now I can't wait to get copper to finish off lower hull and the painting of the rest. Looks like we'll be all busy for at least a year Happy building

Like Tom I'm pretty much on schedule, I was lucky (or unlucky depending how you take it) to have a pretty bad period of arthritis problems over winter which meant I pretty much was sitting on my backside working on the planking, so I was able to keep up with the mags. I just wish I had come across the forum earlier, as I probably would not have made so many mistakes, and I also wish I had taken out my order with the newsagents earlier, as delays in receiving subsribed magazines led to too much tinkering, and so making more errors. So here's to another year of scratched, bleeding, sticky, and completely glued together fingers. Another year of moaning at various silly things, that really don't deserve the anger aimed at them, (after all it's only a model wooden boat), but most of all a year of seeing all the help that all the experts on the forum offer to us beginners even if we don't always show the amount of gratitude that the help deserves. Come on you Jimmies

Hi All,
Hasn't that year flown by!
I'm a bit behind the official build (purposely done) & am about to finish the planking.
I must take my hat off to all those (especially Son of Bulwark) who achieved smooth & even planking, I faired, tapered, chamfered, packed out, fitted stealers, fitted droppers and did many an Irish jig! Still I did not get smooth planking runs but suffered the dreaded 'Clinkering' effect! However saying that I learnt a lot as I went & my next planking job will be much improved! Keep your eye out I may post some pics of my Caldercraft Endeavour!
Lots of sanding & the use of a tadge of filler will have Vicki looking good too, so I'm pretty chuffed with the results so far.
So here's to the next 12 months!
Wilfy

what a year ay' planked the old girl 3 times, then just to take more punishment I then double planked her, then I set about the victory, whatched the moans and groans, then had a moan meself,(well I am an old grumpy g*t,) helped a few,and then got a couple of fillers.just to keep me going on the long winter nights.made a lotta friends, and sadly a few gave up.but summers on the way,and only 70 issues to go.now where that postie,he's passing my door again grrrrrrrrrrrr.now heres an idea!!! why can't de-ag. double up on deliveries and catch up on the newsagents? be a pr exercise. Not quite sure how well doubled-up payments would go down in these times of money being tight.

One year gone already, I never expected that I would enjoy the build as much as I have and I am debating which ship I would like to build next. The forum and Tomicks build has been extremely helpful and could not I have got this far without your help.
Thanks to you all

I think the wife is enjoying it more with amount of cursing coming from the utility room over the past couple of weeks, lol. Really taking shape and proud of what i've done up to now :-)

It has been a great year, still only half planked, but getting there, this has got to be my slowest build yet, but loving every minute of it...Okay, so the air has been blue with my misuse of the French language at times, but hey, that's all the fun of modelling... I noticed on the History channel yesterday that Deag was advertising the Victory build, so we can be looking out for more newbies... Hope you continue enjoying your builds shipmates....I know I am... Current Builds: Deagostini HMS Victory: Deagostini HMS Sovereign of the seas. Completed Builds: Del Prado: HMAS Bounty: Hachette: RMS Titanic: Del Prado: Cutty Sark...

I totally agree with you Johny, this has been a great year and I personally have developed skills that I did not know I had. Frustrating, yes, but as my first wooden ship build I knew it was not going to be easy and without the official build diary would not have been able to get this far. Now on the last few rows of planking the lower hull before completing the upper planking. Will update my build diary in a few days if all goes to plan. Happy building to you all CMB

Seems like we started building a couple of months ago. I'm still on the first lot of planking and just cut the first row of gunports. The fairing caused me problems, but with Mr T's help, (although he doesn't know it ), I got there in the end. Here's looking forward to the next year and I hope you all have as much satisfaction building the Victory as I have had. Thanks all. Dave H
Current builds :- Hachette 1/16 Tiger Tank H.M.S Victory, Santisima Trinidad (Section), 1/8 scale Aston Martin DB5, 1/8 scale McLaren, YNWA

Do they not say time flies when you are having fun, and I certainly had not realised the year is up. Only seems like yesterday in most ways. Have just been a bit frustrated at times waiting for the next batch of issues. So no real regrets and all has gone pretty much to plan except for the gallery former not "going home" making it too high. But all sorted with the old razor saw and some balsa. Certainly does not show now. Only negative is overscale cannon tackle. The copper plates will need to be to scale since they are an extra. Laury
