Hi all I've just been working through issue 30 and putting the leg together. Unfortunately, when I came to attach the rear ankle piece (step 15) I realised I hadn't left enough slack in the ribbon cable for the motor unit - grrr! I tried pulling the cable but the ties are too tight to allow any movement. So I set about dismantling the leg so I could rectify the problem. All went well until one of the 12 screws used to attach the rear leg casing refused to budge. The head of the screw has stripped and I can get no purchase on it with a screwdriver. I've tried a few different ones. Before I try anything more drastic, does anyone have any nifty ideas on how I can remove the screw? I have attached a pic to show which one it is; it's very well recessed. TechnicMan attached the following image(s):

have you got a left handed drill bit, put power drill in reverse, if you do it very slow revs, with a bit of pressure it should dig in to the head and unscrew.

Hi, Saw a tip on youtube a while back which is to put a rubber band over the screw head and then use the driver as normal via the band to gain the grip, Here's a link to the vid, the tip is shown at around 11:15 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yxviTLVjvDQ
Hope this helps May.

Thanks MFG and stevegbr, excellent suggestions. I think I'll give the rubber band a try first.

Ok, so the rubber band didn't work. Have ordered a 1mm left-handed drill bit and will let you know what happens with that.

I would use a bigger drill than 1mm to be honest.

when it starts to bite there will be pressure as it starts to unscrew.

these are good as well, as long as the screw is not too deep recess. http://www.ebay.co.uk/it...73fb8:g:5bUAAOSw1g9ZoWOX

Thanks stevegbr. The 1mm bit is on its way already so I'll give it a try and see. The screw is in a pretty deep narrow recess so I don't think those tools would be any use unfortunately

safe to say the screw is a goner, carefully drill the head off with say 1/8th drill bit. the if possible use some pliers to get the thread out. next problem is where to get another screw from Building: Ghostbusters Ecto-1, Ford GT40, Gone in 60 seconds Eleanor mustang, Shelby Cobra Complete: R2D2, Red Bull RB7 RC, Battleship Bismarck, Shelby GT500 'super snake'

I finally got it out using a 2mm left-hand drill bit. The 1mm bit I initially bought would not fit in my drill and, as stevegbr suggested, I think it may not have been strong enough. Anyway, using the 2mm drill bit with my power drill in reverse, the screw came straight out. Result!
