Issue 45 contains – Sensor Cable, LED Cluster For Processor State Indicator, LED Cluster Mounting Plate, LED Cable, Fixing Screws, Left Ankle Detail.

The LED display.

Fit the LED cluster in to its mounting so that the three pin socket slots into the rectangular hole in the mounting and the three holes on the cluster line up with the matching screw holes in the mounting. Holding the assembly together, drive one of the screws provided this time, into each of the three holes just enough to hold the cluster in place. Do not overtighten the screws or you may crack the mounting.

Undo the twist of wire holding the LED cable together. Compare the plugs on each end of the lead. The smaller plug fits into the socket in the LED cluster. Press the smaller plug into the socket, making sure you get the plug the right way round, until it locks into place.

Testing the LED panel.

Connect the other end of the lead to the OUT socket on the test board and connect the battery box to POWER. Then press the switches marked S1 and S2 to check that the processor indicator LED changes to the correct colours, S1 – yellow, S2 – green. Ensure you switch off the battery box after testing to save the batteries.

R2-D2’s left ankle fittings.

Take the four leg details supplied with this issue, together with two of the black 2.3x4mm self-tapping screws that came with Issue 44.Match up the first two parts, ensuring they are the correct way round and use a 2.3x4mm self-tapping screw to join the two parts. The reverse of both parts should face you. Repeat the process to join the other two parts which are mirror images of the first assembly.

This Issue is now complete.

Carefully store any remaining parts in an issue labelled bag for future use.

Issue 51 contains – Dome Casing.

There are over 20 openings in the dome, into which you will fit the working parts (such as display lights) and blue panels that characterise R2-D2’s appearance.

Take care to correctly identify which opening you should be installing each panel into before fixing the panels.

Take the dome, plus the blue panel and double-sided tapes from Issue 50. The tapes are applied inside the dome above and below the opening into which the panel is being fitted.

Carefully peel off the white backing from the tape. Carefully apply the tape to the inside of the dome above the opening, first checking you have the correct opening. Repeat the process and fit the second strip of tape below the opening.
Peel off the brown backing from both tapes. Carefully align the panel with the opening and press it firmly into place so it fits flush with the edges of the opening.

This Issue is now complete.

Carefully store any remaining parts in an issue labelled bag for future use.
