Having looked a various different builds, and other sites I was wondering what is the best glue for double planking. I've seen on here that a lot of people use contact adhesive, but can normal PVA be used? What is the best and what are the pros and cons for different glues? Come on you Jimmies

It really depends ont he thickness of strip, 1mm or thinner, you'll find that PVA soaks into the strip and the bond not so good, and where because of the water content in PVA the strip can warp/bubble up as the glue dries out.
Most tend to use contact adhesive and some use a thick/gel superglue.
Its really down to personal choice as to which you prefer to use based on the type of strip being used.

I can add aliphatic glue as a good medium for double planking,you use the same method as contact glue,put on both surfaces,then when tacky ('bout 2 min.)then stick by thumbing quite hard to get the air out.I've found using superglue gel that you get residue marks that are difficult to remove.I personally don't like contact glue because it is instant.and you may need to manouver the planks a bit which you can't get with contact adhesive. I concur with karl, I tried PVA, a couple of different contact adhesives and Alphatic.
When using PVA and Alphatic I used a dab of Super Glue at the start of the strip to hold it in place, then using a damp cloth and lots of pressure 'ironed' it in place with thumb.
By the time I finnished 2nd planking my vote goes to Alphatic, as karl say's 'no residue and time to move it into position'.

Thanks guys, I have tried contact adhesive before, but I found I got more on my fingers than on the model, so was really looking at another method, I'll try the Aliphatic route, as it seems easy to clean off both hands and model. Cheers Come on you Jimmies
